From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Follow live updates from the Rugby World Cup as Uruguay and Georgia go head to head this morning in Kumagaya.

Fiji were stunned in Pool D on Wednesday when the South Americans achieved the greatest result in their rugby history with a 30-27 victory in Kamaishi.

Georgia, meanwhile, lost their opening game to Wales 43-14 on Monday, but they produced a dogged second-half performance in which they shared 28 points with Warren Gatland's side. Follow the live action below:

What time is it?

Georgia vs Uruguay kicks off on Sunday 29 September at 2.15pm Japan Standard Time, which is 6.15am BST.

Juan Manuel Gaminara passionately belts out the final words of Uruguay's lively anthem, and we are just about ready to go in Kumagaya.

There's some sort of clapping routine that has been organised for the fans. Odd atmosphere as Wayne Barnes, our referee today, gives his final instructions...

And we are underway in Kumagaya

1 minute

A first touch for Uruguay after Georgia kick it back to them, and it's a poor one, with a disconnect between Felipe Berchesi and his runner causing a fumble.

Georgia look to counter, and when they shift it wide there is space. Tedo Abzhandadze gives a good flat pass, but they can't work the tight channel near the left touchline, and the ball is knocked on. Uruguay scrum.

3 minutes

Solid stuff from Uruguay and a hard carry from Andres Vilaseca, making seven metres on the crash.

Whipped wide by Berchesi, but Georgia have the numbers to manage the width, and into a kicking battle we go.

Oh! That's a tackle in the air. Zura Dzveladze has his eyes only on Gaston Mieres as he chases a box kick and takes him before his toes it the floor. Penalty Uruguay, and into Georgian territory.

5 minutes

A good lineout but a poor pass from Uruguay, and the ball is ripped away by Georgia.

And here goes Gela Aprasidze! He needs only a sliver of space around the ruck and he finds one here, knifing through and weaving his way down into the Uruguay 22 after a delightful dummy.

He's stopped by a stiff shot to the chest on the 22 as he looks to weave wider, but gets the ball away to his half-back partner Abzhandadze. It appears the try may soon be coming when Otari Giorgadze moves to within two metres with a powerful charge, but Uruguay transgress to stop it coming. Penalty Georgia. Scrum taken, unsurprisingly.

6 minutes

Wayne Barnes goes to his whistle - it is another penalty for Georgia as the scrum immediately goes down. Juan Pedro Rombys hasn't taken the hit. Georgia scrum again, of course.

Harry Latham-Coyle29 September 2019 06:24

7 minutes

Rombys again goes down under pressure. Penalty number two at the scrum. Wayne Barnes says he needs to get his body position higher. He'll have an immediate opportunity - Georgia scrum again.

Harry Latham-Coyle29 September 2019 06:25

TRY! The advantage is coming but they won't need it!

Too easy for Georgia. Rombys collapses again and that gives Aprasidze and Abzhandadze licence to play, and with two flat passes the ball is already to the Uruguay 13's outside shoulder, with Abzhandadze's a particularly lovely whipped ball.

A 2-on-1 is nicely executed, and Alexander Todua has the space to hustle in to the corner.

Conversion missed. That's the first time Georgia have ever missed a conversion at a World Cup, unbelievably.

Georgia 5-0 Uruguay

Georgia have started really well, with hard blitz inside defence to pressure the Uruguayan distributors and smart kicking to take territory, something Fiji didn't do.

And there's that scrum! A great drive that Uruguay somehow survive, and win a penalty as Georgia are overeager in the counter ruck.
