Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow live updates from the Rugby World Cup as France look to make it two from two when they take on USA this morning.

The French came through an epic thriller against Argentina in their opening match, with Les Bleus now favourite to join England in qualifying for the quarter-finals.

But first they must overcome the challenge posed by Gary Gold’s USA side, who were thumped 45-7 in their opener against Eddie Jones’ men last week. Follow live updates below:

France vs USA kicks off at 4.45pm Japan Standard Time, which is 8.45am BST, on Wednesday 2 October.

Where can I watch it?

You can't afford to kick loosely to Thomas Ramos, who weaves his way between two tacklers to make 20 metres after collecting a USA kick.

USA again fail to gather a high ball and France will have a scrum in their half. A chance to launch off set-piece.

Yoann Huget gathered Camille Lopez's chip over the top to score France's first

Twice we reset. It seems France might fancy a penalty here rather than stability to launch their backs. Booooo!

Maxime Machenaud hasn't managed to get the ball in yet, though, with the turf cutting up beneath the heavy hooves.

Whoops from the USA pack - the penalty is theirs!

Emerick Setiano collapses under pressure and that's a real statement from the US scrum.

The USA kick down towards the 22 and work a nice set-piece move, with runners threatening from deep and MacGinty again delivering a lovely flat pass, with Marcel Brache taking and dashing through an opening in the defence.

France are offside at the next phase. Penalty beneath the posts.

PENALTY!

Over the penalty is popped by MacGinty. USA on the board.

France 7-3 USA

First sighting of Alivereti Raka with ball-in-hand, and he tells big lock Nick Civetta to sit down with a huge fend into the chest, breaching the defensive line.

Gael Fickou fumbles as the ball is worked to the right, but that's a sign of what Raka can do. Swatted aside!

France recover the ball at the breakdown and again go to the boot, with ball pushed down the left for Yoann Huget to hare after. USA smother it back and manage to clear, but not particularly far. France will build another attacking movement.

Neat interplay from France, working passes around a first-receiver and bringing big carriers into the game, targeting softer shoulders.

The advantage is coming, and Camille Lopez again goes to the boot...

TRY! THAT IS DELICIOUS! A perfect crossfield kick and Alivereti Raka is in!

Lopez doubles back on himself with the advantage, looking for an option, and perfectly weights a delectable little stab across field, clearing Martin Iosefo slightly infield and finding the rampaging Raka, who doesn't have to break stride to take and scamper over from five metres or so. Beautifully created.

France 12-3 USA
