From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Wales put one foot in the World Cup quarter-finals and announced themselves as major title contenders after beating Australia 29-25 at Tokyo Stadium.

The Six Nations champions took charge of Pool D with a second successive win that could lead to a last-eight clash against France or Argentina.

Australia, though, might be hurtling towards a knockout tie with England, who are coached by former Wallabies boss Eddie Jones, despite staging a spectacular second-half fightback.

56 min: Australia 15-26 Wales

Liam Williams looked to have the turnover after another spell of pressure from Australia but the referee pulls up the Welsh for failing to roll away at the breakdown. The Wallabies kick to touch, finding Wales' 5-metre line down in the left-hand corner. A big moment this...

The rolling maul is formed off the line-out as Australia bore down on their opponents. Wales concede yet another penalty as they attempt to keep the Wallabies out before Matt Toomua kicks right in search of Dane Haylett-Petty. It's overcooked but we come back to the original penalty. Australia kick for another line-out.

60 min: Australia 15-26 Wales

Australia are doing their best to grind down the Welsh defence. They pick and go, moving from left to right, right to left, pushing their opponents to the edge. Another penalty is drawn. That's two in a row... Wales need to be careful here or they'll find themselves a man down. Australia kick for the line-out. Again.

Michael Hooper is stopped two metres short of the line off a crash ball. The Wallabies are camped out on the white line. They're so close!

TRY! Australia finally get it!

63 min: Australia 22-26 Wales (Hooper try, Toomua conversion)

It was only  a matter of time. That was absolutely relentless stuff from the Wallabies who threw the kitchen sink at their opponents. After god knows how many phases, it was Michael Hooper who finally wormed his way through the smallest of cracks in the Welsh defence.

Toomua with the extras. Game. On.

65 min: Australia 22-26 Wales

It's all Australia now as we go down for another scrum five metres out from Wales' 22 next to the left flank. Gareth Davies with the put in. It's clean. Rhys Patchell launches it downfield after receiving possession off his nine.

66 min: Australia 22-26 Wales

Still Australia come. Their turn for the put in at the scrum. They're in a dangerous position too, set on Wales' 22 just right of the posts.

67 min: Australia 25-26 Wales (Toomua penalty)

It's really not going Wales' way. Australia get the penalty at the scrum before Matt Toomua kicks with ease to bring his side within one point of their opponents. How much longer until the Welsh lead is overturned? If the match continues at this rate, not long at all.

69 min: Australia 25-26 Wales

Wales look to steady themselves after Liam Williams comfortably claims a high ball on the left wing. Australia's turn to concede a penalty as the referee's arm goes up on the half-way line. Rhys Patchell finds the 22 with his kick. Can Wales fight back here?
