Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez claimed victory in the men’s doubles final at Queen’s Club.

Murray, who wins his first title in over two years, defeated Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram 7-6 5-7 10-5 in front of packed crown in west London.

For the Scot, who hadn't played for six months before this week, it is the perfect return to the game while Lopez adds the doubles crown to the singles title which he won earlier in the day.

Lopez 6-6 Simon*

Simon races to a 30-0 lead, but is pegged back by a brilliant passing shot and then Lopez bests him in a 27-shot rally. Lopez then saves a breakpoint by coming into the net off a backhand slice, closing down the angle, and forces Simon's attempt at a cross-court forehand long.

The game goes to deuce, but Simon plays a brilliant bludgeoning point with two immense forehands that leave Lopez rocked and answerless. Instead, the Spaniard turns to shout at his box in dismay. Lopez recovers with a strong return of serve to take the game back to deuce.

They see-saw twice more too and from deuce and the tension until finally Lopez cracks, not only under the pressure but sheer exhaustion. We're going to a champions tie-break.

Champion's tie-break: Lopez 1-2 Simon

We start on serve, a careless error from Lopez wasting a great chance to take an early advantage.

Champion's tie-break: *Lopez 3-2 Simon

Two quick service points for Lopez, with Simon unable to deal with the slice into the body.

Champion's tie-break: Lopez 5-2 Simon*

A brilliant volley from Lopez after a great rally sends it to 5-2 and surely the Spaniard is within touching distance now.

And there it is! Lopez 6-2 6-7 7-6 Simon

Lopez wins a second Queen's Club title in three years and what a gruelling performance it was. And now he's got to soldier back after all the celebrations, the presentations, and the loss of adrenaline to go all over again alongside Andy Murray.
