From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Arizona Cardinals took Kyler Murray with the first overall pick, meaning Josh Rosen's future lies elsewhere.
The Oakland Raiders enjoyed a busy night with three first round picks, while the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks all made big moves.
Welcome to Independent Sport's live coverage of the 2019 NFL Draft.
The first round is tonight - here's everything you need to know as this year's class prepare to make the jump in Nashville.
Kyler Murray is expected to go No 1 overall to the Arizona Cardinals, but it's far from secure, find out why the Oklahoma quarterback is so special here.
Kyler Murray insists he can become the greatest to ever do it.
That's just months removed after Tom Brady led the Patriots to a sixth Super Bowl championship during a 19-year career.
“Honestly, I want to be the best that ever played the game,” Murray said.
“I’ve done it my whole life (playing both football and baseball),” Murray explained. “I touch one field and do my thing, then touch another field, and it’s time to go on that field.
“Now I’m spending all my time on football I hope to make a tremendous stride.”
Well this seems like a fairly major screw-up!
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is reporting right now that pass rusher Montez Sweat's heart issue - which has caused him to fall down the draft boards of many teams - might have been misdiagnosed.
That is not some minor mistake and will merit an investigation.
Heart issue or not, Sweat is expected to go in the first round tonight.
The NFL has averaged SIX first round trades in the last three years, so expect drama tonight as teams roll the dice.
There were six last year, seven in 2017 and five in 2016.
As far as stories go, Kahzin Daniels has a compelling one, but he will be determined to change the narrative to what he does on the pitch.
Alabama and LSU lead the way over the last 10 years with 65 picks each.
But USC has the record historically with an astonishing 505 picks.
Most picks last 10 years at NFL Draft by college
LSU: 65
Alabama: 65
USC: 62
Ohio State: 56
Florida: 55
Patrick Mahomes is the cover star for Madden 20!
The Chiefs star won the MVP last season and is rewarded with the iconic cover shot.
Some say it is a cursed honour, but Mahomes carries himself so well, it is hard to see him not backing up last season.
Noah Fant looks to be an interesting option for the New England Patriots at No 32.
Having lost Rob Gronkowski, Bill Belichick must give Tom Brady a new weapon over the middle.
Fant, from Ohio State, figures to be in their range.
We're moments away from the Cardinals being put on the clock.
Will Kyler Murray be taken?
Or will there be a shock to force the league to rethink their options.
It looks like Lincoln Riley might know something we don't.
Kyler Murray's former head coach might have given the game away.
I spoke to several Cardinals fans earlier.
They are mixed over Murray.
There is some affection for Rosen and the lack of opportunity so far, plus the evident need for quality elsewhere. Bosa was mentioned as an alternative, while Nkeal Harry could be a feel-good story with their second pick.
The only consensus among Cardinals fans is that general manager Steve Keim is under big pressure - get this one wrong and he is probably gone!
