Brilliant centuries from Jos Buttler and Joe Root were not enough to carry England to a record World Cup chase as Pakistan produced a stunning upset at Trent Bridge.
Root's 107 was the first ton of the tournament and Buttler was in irresistible form with 103 in 76 balls but both men fell before the finishing line, with Pakistan closing out a 14-run victory.
A target of 349 invited England to go where no other team had gone before at this level and while their master batsmen were in charge it looked as though they could, should and then would make it two wins from two. Re-live the action in the live blog below

Nice work from Root to get the first boundary of the over, a clipped shot behind him to edge Wahab Riaz's delivery through second slip for four.
He's unhappy and shaking his head towards the umpire, not sure why.
Root is continuing to protest about something to do with the ball. Perhaps it is the way Pakistan are treating it, although it's worth remembering England were firing it around all morning.

A ball later and Babar Azam is moved into the slip position. Buttler responds by edging another in that direction a could of balls later and finds the gap between the two via Babar's fingertips. Lucky or precise? Probably the former.

This partnership is coming along really nicely and they are able to hit shots all across the ground. Sarfaraz is slightly up against it when setting his field.
Buttler has his 50 as he sweeps one for six. Asif Ali tries to take a catch on the rope and appears to have slightly hurt himself in the process.

Pakistan will be very keen for a wicket as soon as possible and may seek an opportunity here as England try and improve after a couple of barren overs.
England take four singles from Hassan Ali's over before Root adds two and sets the highest individual score of the World Cup, going one better than Ben Stokes and David Warner.

The rotation of strike is really key.
In ruing to get a single, Buttler has a heart-in-mouth moment as the gets stuck on the pads by Hassan, although the umpire has absolutely no interest. Nothing.
