From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

England suffered a shock defeat to Sri Lanka in the Cricket World Cup at Headingley.

Eoin Morgan's men were on a high after a blistering innings from the skipper himself powered them to a 150-run win over Afghanistan at Old Trafford on Tuesday. But they came crashing down to earth at Headingley as Lasith Malinga shredded their top order on the way to a famous win.

Here's how it played out:

Matthews has played maturely for his 50.

Sri Lanka: 183-5 (42 overs)

Three from the over, as Archer's pace troubles de Silva and Matthews.

Eight overs remaining - Sri Lanka on course for around 230.

Mark Wood comes back into the attack now, preferred to Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes.

Sri Lanka: 188-5 (43 overs)

Signs of frustration showing from Matthews, as he struggles to find a gap down to the boundary.

Another solid over for England, only five from it.

WICKET! Sri Lanka 190-6. de Silva, ct Root b Archer, 29 (47) (43.3 overs)

Brilliant catch by Joe Root!

Dhananjaya de Silva swipes the ball to mid-on, and Root leaps high to his left and grabs it with both hands, superb!

Every time Sri Lanka look to push for some runs, they are thwarted by England's brilliant fielding. They're now six down.

Thisara Perera comes in at no.8...

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 13:26

Sri Lanka: 192-6 (44 overs)

A wicket and four runs from the over, Sri Lanka struggling now.

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 13:28

Sri Lanka: 194-6 (45 overs) Matthews 61 (97), Perera 2 (4)

Another excellent over by Mark Wood - a bunch of off-side yorkers means only five runs come from it.

Five overs to go.

200 up for Sri Lanka!

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 13:34

WICKET! Sri Lanka: 200-7. T Perera, c Rashid b Archer, 2 (6) (45.4 overs)

Sri Lanka are now 7 down, as Perera spoons the ball to third man, and Adil Rashid takes a good catch down low.

England's fielding has been top notch all day... Archer has his third wicket of the game, and he is now joint top of the wicket-takers list for this World Cup. He's on 15, level with Australia's Mitchell Starc.
