From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

England suffered a shock defeat to Sri Lanka in the Cricket World Cup at Headingley.

Eoin Morgan's men were on a high after a blistering innings from the skipper himself powered them to a 150-run win over Afghanistan at Old Trafford on Tuesday. But they came crashing down to earth at Headingley as Lasith Malinga shredded their top order on the way to a famous win.

Here's how it played out:

England 176-6 (40 overs) Stokes 52 (65) Woakes 2 (3)

Pradeep comes back in, and another five off the over.

57 needed from 60.

We're into powerplay 3 - no more than five fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle.

We could be in for a dramatic finish here at Headingley!

WICKET! England 176-7. ct Perera b de Silva 2 (4) (40.1 overs)

Oh boy England are in trouble now!

de Silva's spin does the job again, as a top-edge from Chris Woakes is taken very sharply behind by wicker-keeper Kusal Perera!

England now only have three wickets in hand, and 57 still to get. Adil Rashid is up next...

WICKET! England 178-8. Rashid, ct Perera b de Silva 1 (2) (40.5 overs)

DEJA VU!

Almost a carbon copy dismissal takes out Adil Rashid, who gives himself room but edges it faintly into Perera's gloves.

England in desperate trouble now!

England 178-8 (41 overs)

Archer is lucky on his first ball too, as a leading edge falls safe.

Well, then, Sri Lanka are on the cusp of a huge upset here...

Dhananjaya de Silva has done the business!

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 17:37

Isuru Udana back into the attack...

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 17:38

England 183-8 (42 overs)

Five from the over, but crucially Archer will be on strike here, and it looks like Malinga is going to come back into the attack...

He has two overs left - can he finish England off?

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 17:42

England 184-8 (42.3 overs)

Archer does well to fend off Malinga, and takes a single to deep mid-wicket. Stokes back on strike.

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 17:45

England 185-8 (43 overs)

Stokes takes a single to long-on, but Archer sees out the over.

Malinga only has 6 balls left. England need 48 runs from 42 deliveries with two wickets remaining.

You could cut the tension with a knife...

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 17:48

England 186-8 (43.3 overs)

Udana bowling, and Stokes strikes a single down to long-on.

Archer on strike, he blocks the first to extra cover...
