From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Joe Root and Joe Denly both passed fifty in pursuit of a target of 359, and though the latter departed soon after reaching his half-century, England’s captain remains unbeaten overnight on 75.
Root’s fine hand ensures England maintain slim hopes of pulling off the most remarkable of chases, and you can see how the third day’s action all unfolded below:

Prediction
England to win: As long as the weather plays ball, this could be the moment the series swings in England’s favour. With Jofra Archer set to renew his bowling assault and no Steve Smith to dig Australia out of trouble, England should be able to level the series here with bright sunshine forecast for the weekend.
AUS 10-1, lead by 122
The crowd are bellowing. Broad is fired up, Khawaja is the new man in. He lets the first ball go past.
AUS 10-1, lead by 122
Broad tries to trap Khawaja in the same way as he got Warner but Australia's number three gets his bat down quick enough.
Four slips for Broad now.
AUS 11-1, lead by 123
It's a wicket maiden for Stuart Broad. I think we might see Jofra Archer's pace go up a touch now.
He starts his second over with a wide.
AUS 11-1, lead by 123
Archer has Harris rooted on the back foot. But he's not troubling the outside edge of the bat. Archer sends a low full toss down, probably intending it to be a yorker and Harris pushes it back to him.
His speeds are a touch under 90mph.
AUS 12-1, lead by 124
This is one of those times were England might go searching for wickets instead of holding to their lines and lengths.
Broad continues with his angles into the left handed batsmen, Khawaja flicks one to fine leg to get off the mark with a single.
AUS 16-1, lead by 128
Broad goes full to entice the drive, Harris takes it on and hits it down the ground. Leach doesn't cut it off and the ball runs away for four.
AUS 17-1, lead by 129
This over from Archer to Khawaja has been quick but erratic. He seems to be searching for wickets with pace and as a result his line isn't as good.
AUS 21-1, lead by 133
To think about this test match the difference between the sides has been the hour after tea yesterday. Woakes and Stokes bowled poorly and Warner and Labuschagne put on a 100 run partnership.
Conditions were vastly different on Day One though. Broad pitches it up again at Khawaja who waits for the ball, plays it late and square drives it for four runs.
AUS 23-1, lead by 135
Australia have flown to 23 with a lead of 135 runs. Joe Root makes a change and brings Chris Woakes into the attack.
He starts with a short pitched ball and Khawaja dabs one into the leg side for a single.
