From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Responding to Australia's formidable declaration mark of 497 for eight, England closed on 200 for five, still 98 short of the follow-on target at Old Trafford.
Their hopes of saving the game and the urn were aided by conditions in Manchester, with morning rain and bad light in the evening allowing just 64 overs possible out a planned 98, while for long periods Burns (81) and Root (71) appeared in control of matters.
In the end the pair shared a defiant stand of 141 in nearly 53 overs - their second-century partnership and England's biggest of the series - only for Hazlewood to intervene with a late, decisive spell. Re-live the action live:

Lunch - ENG 278-8, Buttler 26, Broad 2
The rain has played a part in this test match already but it won't be coming to save England. Blue skies and sunshine for the rest of the weekend.
Lunch - ENG 278-8, Buttler 26, Broad 2
England trail Australia by 219 runs. They'll probably have four sessions to bat to save the game.
A repeat of Edgabaston where England lost the first test match.
Jos Buttler will be key after lunch, a counter attack from him could bring the deficit within 150.
If England can scrape another 100 runs or so they'll fancy themselves to hold on for a draw.
ENG 278-8, Buttler 26, Broad 2
Nathan Lyon will start after lunch, Stuart Broad is on strike, the first couple of balls turn past the outside edge.
ENG 280-8, Buttler 26, Broad 4
Broad sweeps Lyon away for two runs and then blocks out the rest of the over.
ENG 281-8, Buttler 27, Broad 4
Mitchell Starc has the ball from the other end. Buttler gets an inside edge for one.
ENG 282-8, Buttler 27, Broad 4
Broad picks up a leg bye as Starc fires one into his pads. Buttler inside edges again onto his pads.
Just the two runs off Starc.
ENG 283-8, Buttler 27, Broad 5
A big sweep again from Broad but he finds the fielder. Lyon then finds the inside edge and Broad picks up another single.
ENG 283-8, Buttler 27, Broad 5
Buttler seems to have a lot of trust in Stuart Broad's ability. I feel that may be misguided.
He sees out the rest of Lyon's over and Starc has six balls at Broad.
