From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

England's Ben Stokes defiantly took the game to Australia to save their Ashes hopes in the third Test at Headingley with one of the greatest innings ever seen.

Stokes pulled off a 76-run partnership with his final teammate, Jack Leach, hitting sixes for fun in a remarkable solo effort.

The series remains alive and goes to the fourth Test at Old Trafford all square. Follow LIVE reaction below.

Test preview:

When is the third Test?

The third Test takes place on 22-26 August.

What time does it start?

The toss takes place at 10:30am in Thursday, with play scheduled to get underway at 11am each day.

Where can I watch it?

Live coverage of each day’s play will be shown on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports The Ashes from 10am.

ENG 67-9

That was it, the chance Australia were after. Hazlewood targets Leach's ribs and he fends it off, Wade scrambles at short leg, dives and catches the ball...

... but as he hit the ground the ball comes loose and Leach survives.

ENG 67 all out.

GONE! Leach is cleaned up by Hazlewood.

Leach goes too far across his stumps and Hazlewood flings down a leg stump delivery. Leach misses it and the stumps are obliterated.

Well this test match has certainly turned on it's head. Australia bowl England for 67 and take a lead of 112 into their second innings.

Michael Jones23 August 2019 14:10

The silver lining, if you can call it that, is England have broken some records with that performance.

That is the lowest England total against Australia since 1948. For perspective that's just three years after the end of the Second World War.

67 is the second lowest total at Headingley in test match cricket and England's lowest ever total at the ground.

Well played boys.

All Australia need to do is bat halfway decent and the Ashes are theirs. Another innings of 179 and they'll have a lead of over 290.

England won't chase that in the fourth innings. But miracles have happened at Headingley before.

Michael Jones23 August 2019 14:14

AUS 0-0, lead by 112

Marcus Harris and David Warner come out for Australia.

Jofra Archer has the ball in hand. He throws it wide and Harris goes for it, misses it by a mile and looks nervous.

Michael Jones23 August 2019 14:18

AUS 4-0, lead by 116

No such nerves with that one, Archer again bowls it outside off stump but Harris latches onto it this time and smokes it for four runs.

Michael Jones23 August 2019 14:19

AUS 6-0, lead by 118

Six runs off Archer's first over. Stuart Broad will take the new ball from the other end. This is a lovely time to bat. The sun is shining and Australia have a lead of 118 runs.

Michael Jones23 August 2019 14:21

AUS 10-0, lead by 122

Broad goes round the wicket to Warner straight away. He fires into the pads and it runs away for four leg byes.

Michael Jones23 August 2019 14:23

AUS 10-1, lead by 122

GONE! Broad gets Warner again!

Broad straightens his line and nips the ball back in to Warner, it strikes him on the back pad and England erupt. Joel Wilson thinks about it and raises the finger. Warner reviews thinking he is outside the line but hawkeye shows he's not.
