England's Ben Stokes defiantly took the game to Australia to save their Ashes hopes in the third Test at Headingley with one of the greatest innings ever seen.

Stokes pulled off a 76-run partnership with his final teammate, Jack Leach, hitting sixes for fun in a remarkable solo effort.

AUS 26-1, lead by 138

Broad hits Harris on the front pad in front of the stumps. Joel Wilson gives it not out. England review.

Not Out. It just didn't look right. Missing leg stump by quite a way, England's desire for wickets has overruled their critical thinking on that one.

AUS 30-1, lead by 142

Woakes has struggled in this match to find his rhythm. He drags one down and Khawaja pulls him away for a one bounce four.

That's better, he pushes it up there and gets the ball full. He's bowling over the wicket so the ball goes across Khawaja who leaves it alone.

AUS 34-1, lead by 146

Broad sends down a wide tempter to Harris and he goes after it. Why wouldn't you with a leave of 146?

He smokes it over point for four more.

I feel as though Australia's batters will cash in for the rest of the day and bat England out of the series.

AUS 36-1, lead by 148

Woakes starts to find the probing length, Harris is squared up and edges one through the gully region for one.

The very never ball Khawaja whips one off his legs and the ball bounces just short of Buttler at short mid-wicket.

Broad's spell is over. He took the wicket of David Warner and now Jack Leach is going to have a bowl.

AUS 36-2, lead by 148

GONE! What a delivery!

Leach picks up his first wicket with his first ball. He throws it up and pitches it into the rough outside the off stump. Harris goes to drive it but it spins back into him, he misses, Leach hits.

AUS 40-2, lead by 152

I was excited to watch England bat today but also because I wouldn't have to type the name Labuschagne in my updates all day.

Well never mind.

Australia's number four, Marnus Labuschagne comes to the middle and hits Leach through cover first ball for four runs.

Michael Jones23 August 2019 15:13

AUS 44-2, lead by 156

The lead is over 150 now. Woakes continues to throw the ball across Khawaja, pushing him further and further to the off side.

Finally he finds the edge but it lands short of Joe Root at first slip and goes through the slips for four more.
