Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The 2018 Ryder Cup is underway at Le Golf National. Jim Furyk has selected Tony Finau and Brooks Koepka to lead the US team out in Paris and they will be up against Thomas Bjorn's strong opening pairing of Justin Rose and Jon Rahm.

Rory McIlroy and Thorbjorn Olesen will play match two against Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler, Paul Casey and rookie Tyrrell Hatton face Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in match three, before the much-anticipated appearance of Tiger Woods alongside the fiery Patrick Reed, who play Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood.

Who's playing?

Some of the very best golfers on the planet. Tiger Woods leads the American team while new world number one Justin Rose is Europe's leading light.

Who's going to win?

USA Evens

Europe 5/4

Draw 11/1

Pressure on Finau to match that and he leaves a makeable uphill putt from the front of the green. Koepka the same but on the other side of the hole.

And the second group take to the first tee. It's Rory McIlroy & Thorbjorn Olesen vs Dustin Johnson & Rickie Fowler.

Finau was this close to finding the water on the left of the first fairway.

Back to Ed Malyon at the first:

Fowler the first to tee off in Match 2 and he finds the rough. Only a few feet in but still the rough. Johnson saves him by plopping it in the safe haven of the fairway in front of the water.

Rose & Rahm (1UP) vs Koepka & Finau

And on the first green both Americans' putts slide past on the low side of the hole. Rose has but a simple tap in and Europe take the lead.

McIlroy & Olesen vs Johnson & Fowler

Oleson looks understandably nervous on the tee as he elects to hit before McIlroy and pulls it into the water. McIlroy finds the fairway.

Rose & Rahm (1UP) vs Koepka & Finau

On the par 3 second Jon Rahm safely finds the green while Justin Rose misses by a fraction left but still leave a makeable chip.

This was Jon Rahm urging on the crowd at the first.

McIlroy & Olesen vs Johnson & Fowler

Dustin Johnson hits one very close and McIlroy has a tricky downhill putt to save the half.

McIlroy & Olesen vs Johnson & Fowler (A/S)

But Johnson pushes the tiddler and it's not even close. What a let off. They go to the second all square as McIlroy whispers to Olesen.
