Wrexham are back in the English Football League after defeating Boreham Wood 3-1 today as the fairytale continues in north Wales.

The Red Dragons secured their place back in the fourth tier for the first time in 15 years and Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, who has labelled English Football League rules allowing only one automatic promotion place from the National League as “insane”, has also promised a “monster” party now that his team have gotten over the line.

Things looked bad for the hosts when Boreham Wood took the lead after just 43 seconds at the Racecourse Ground but from then on Phil Parkinson’s side dominated. Elliot Lee - the hero in the match against title rivals Notts County - popped up on the 15 minute mark to nod home an equaliser.

Half-time came and went with the scores still level but prolific striker Paul Mullin came up with the goods. Two glorious second half strikes gave him a brace, settled the nerves inside the ground and secured the National League title for Wrexham.

Wrexham 3-1 Boreham Wood

74 min: The singing and cheering will go on for a long time. There’s still over 15 minutes of the game to play but Wrexham shouldn’t throw it away from here.

As it stands they’re winning the National League.

71 mins: That’ll do!

Paul Mullin nicks the ball high up the pitch and carries it into the box. He rolls it onto his left foot then smokes his shot across the face of goal and finds the top corner.

It’s a great strike that beats Nathan Ashmore and the Wrexham fans are in part mode now.

Wrexham 2-1 Boreham Wood

68 mins: Ndlovu picks out Marsh inside Wrexham’s box. The Boreham Wood striker is pushed and pulled but manages to get a shot away and sees it blocked.

The BT Sport commentators think he would have been in with a shout of a penalty if he’d have gone to ground there. A missed trick maybe?

62 mins: Close! Boreham Wood finally respond to Wrexham’s dominance. Erico Sousa weaves his way down the right wing and lifts a fine cross into the middle of the box.

Wrexham 2-1 Boreham Wood

58 mins: It’s all Wrexham at the minute. They’re trying to kill off the game by scoring again. With just one goal in it the pressure is on the Welsh side until the final whistle, another goal will ease it slightly.

Wrexham have the ball int he back of the net once again as Andy Cannon gets into the box with a one-two. He lays it off to Mullin who guides it home only for the offside flag to go up.

That’s a close call.

Wrexham 2-1 Boreham Wood

55 mins: The Wrexham faithful now believe that the title is theirs. The hosts have come from behind to lead with just over 30 minutes to play.

If the score remains as it is, Wrexham will win the game, the National League and promotion to the EFL. There’s lots at stake.
