From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Some journalists out in Russia have taken a fair bit of criticism following the leaked line-up drama but Southgate swoops in again to remove the damage.
Sir Southgate, perhaps?
And it's 1-0 to Mexico with Carlos Vela scoring from the spot. South Korea might feel slightly hard done to and made a bright start themselves but they know have a mountain to claim.
The Concacaf side look incredibly threatening once again.
HALF TIME: South Korea 0-1 Mexico
A very reasonable first half from both sides sees Mexico take the narrow lead into the second half courtesy of ANOTHER penalty, dispatched by Carlos Vela.
That penalty incidentally means this tournament has already seen more spot kicks than we saw during the whole of the 2014 World Cup.
South Korea are still in this game though and need something to save their hopes of progressing from Group F.
Meanwhile, on an England front, the Three Lions are preparing to play in Nizhny Novgorod tomorrow afternoon with the weather there expected to exceed 30 degree heat.
England, not necessarily the National team, has its own history with the city which Oliver Carroll has written about here:
Another piece from one of our writers here as Nick Miller talks us through one of the laziest stereotypes in football, not helped by Sir Alan Sugar's bizarre tweet earlier this week:
ROMELU LUKAKU COULD MISS ENGLAND CLASH.
The Belgian forward who netted twice today was substituted early in the second half and did appear injured even earlier.
Additionally, in the last hour we can report to you that Serbia have officially complained after the officials failed to award a penalty for a seemingly clear foul on Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Switzerland went on to comeback and claim victory in the final knocking of the game with three points that could have a huge bearing on the way Group E finishes.
More on the Romelu Lukaku story the Independent has just broken to you.
So, what have we learnt as the 2018 World Cup reaches its tenth day?
Well, for starters, Belgium are good. The Red Devils put Tunisia to the sword earlier this afternoon, defeating them 5-2 with a pair of braces from Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku.
However, as we've just reported, it would appear that Romelu Lukaku has suffered an injury during the game if Roberto Martinez' post-match press conference comments are anything to go by.
Germany are readying themselves for a make-or-break game against Sweden later this evening where three points really are the order of the day for the current World Champions.
Our own Ed Malyon reporting from Russia informs us that Mario Gomez could even be in line for a surprise starting berth against the Swedes.
And finally, England received some positive news earlier this morning with Dele Alli returning to training. Whether that means he's in line to start against Panama, I really couldn't guess.
Enjoy your evening, folks, and follow the blog tomorrow for all live updates during England v Panama.
