Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today is the first day of the tournament with no fixtures scheduled: but that doesn't mean the news stops.

England are currently preparing for their huge last 16 clash with Colombia after losing 1-0 to Belgium last night. We will bring you all the reaction from Gareth Southgate and the rest of the camp.

And we will also bring you the very latest from every other nation as we finally enter the business end of the tournament. It's beginning to get (even more) exciting!

Salah's home swarmed by fans after leak.

Mohammed Salah's home address was recently leaked on Facebook causing fans to swarm the Liverpool star's Egyptian residence. This comes after Eygpt's humiliating exit from the 2018 World Cup where Salah scored the nations only goals.

The 26-year-old spent the night meeting and greeting fans and signing autographs for them outside his house. The much-loved sportsman remains a popular figure in Egypt despite their World Cup results.

Alexander-Arnold left disappointed after Belgium defeat.

The 19-year-old Liverpool up and comer received his first national cap against Belgium yesterday but he has been left feeling flat following the 1-0 defeat.

“Everyone is disappointed now,” Trent said speaking to ITV. “You don’t want to see smiles in the changing rooms. You want to win every game."

“I’m very disappointed [because] we came into the game wanting to win it, obviously we never won it, but we are still in the round of 16 and something to look forward to."

Gary Cahill thinks that the Belgium defeat will help England in the long run by reminding the team of what's ahead of them. Cahill made a goal-line stop that stopped the Belgians from going ahead in the first half.

"The Belgium game was a reminder to us of the standard of teams we are coming up against from now on," Cahill told the London Evening Standard.

Will Marcelo be fit for Brazil vs Mexico?

According to Sambafoot, Brazilian support staff are confident in Marcelo's return ahead of their match against Mexico.

Brazil’s team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar is quietly confident that left-back Marcelo can recover in time for Monday’s World Cup last 16 tie against Mexico. Marcelo went off after 8 minutes of the Seleção’s 2-0 win voer Serbia on Wednesday.

The player had a violent back spasm and went off in some discomfort, replaced by Filipe Luis. But Brazil have not ruled him out of the Mexico game, saying the player is already much better.

“Marcelo had a back spasm but is already better. Now we have to wait a little, 48 hours or so, to see how he responds. It is possible [he can play against Mexico], there is not much time but we are optimistic.
