Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sweden and Switzerland face off on Tuesday with the prospect on an unlikely quarter-final place and a potential meeting with England.

Sweden were the shock winners of Group F, which saw Germany finish bottom in an enthralling final round of fixtures.

Switzerland on the other hand saw off the challenge of Serbia to make sure they went through behind tournament favourites Brazil.

What time is it?

The game kicks off at 3pm BST in St Petersburg.

Where can I watch it?

The game will be shown live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with coverage starting from 2.30pm BST.

Odds:

Sweden: 2/1

Switzerland: 7/4

Draw after 90 minutes: 2/1

Prediction:

Sweden 2-1 Switzerland. It will be a close game between the two and despite Switzerland being the higher-ranked side, Sweden’s performances so far look like they could be enough to guide them through. Just.

With the majority of England currently sweaty palmed, and nervously counting down until kick off at 7pm why would anyone care about the small matter of Sweden vs Switzerland...

Well for starters, it's the World Cup, and this one more than any has shown us anything can (and will) happen.

Secondly the victor here will be England's quarter final opponents if we are to advance past Colombia this evening. If it's really coming home, we'll need to beat one of these two sides...

We've had the World Cup of hair, World Cup of kits, and now may I introduce the World Cup of cats...which one of these furry friends will come out on top at full time?

We've seen plenty of Premier League clashes so far in the World Cup so how will this one compare?

Granit Xhaka and Victor Lindelof have both had mixed starts to life in the Premier League, but will be key for their countries this afternoon. Xhaka will be charged with keeping his discipline - something he doesn't always find easy - as well as getting the ball from defence to attack quickly.

Lindelof must remain firm at the back, despite the pressure that will undoubtedly be placed on the Swedish defence.

Could this be Sweden's year? As has been well publicised they are in the favourable half of the draw, with a fairly open route to the World Cup final... it didn't go so well for Mexico yesterday.

Who should we be looking out for as kick off rapidly approaches? Who Scored show us the starting XI's and their World Cup ratings so far...

Sweden may have lost the individual quality of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and their team spirit and unity has got them this far. But if you were to pick out one talent in this Swedish side it would be Emil Forsberg.

Although his final ball may need some improvement he links well with his team mates and is the first to break forward from the rigid defensive line that has served them so well. He has even been described as the 'Anti Zlatan'.

A reminder Stephan Lichtsteiner is suspended today, how big a miss will he be for Switzerland?
