Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Both Brazil and Serbia are in contention for a place in the round of 16. Group E is one of the most open groups in the World Cup with Costa Rica being the only team that cannot qualify for the knockout stage.

Brazil have not had the opening to the World Cup that was expected of them. Their recent clash with Costa Rica was saved due to two very late goals scored in injury time.

Brazil forward Neymar has come under fire recently after his performances in the Russia so far. He has struggled the team’s previous matches against Switzerland and Costa Rica.

Serbia recently lost to Switzerland 2-1 after conceding a goal in the 90th minute of their match on Friday. Although it will be an uphill battle Serbia are still in the running for a place in the round of 16.

Prediction

Although Brazil haven’t had the start to the tournament that was expected of them it’s reasonable to assume that they will be able to beat Serbia and secure their place in the round of 16.

It was as expected in tonight's Group E games, Brazil took apart a Serbia side with relative ease to top the group and book their place in the last 16, and Switzerland are also through after Costa Rica held them to a draw.

Join us tomorrow for a big round of fixtures as we find out who England will play in the next round and, of course, the biggest game so far...

Tunisia vs Panama!
