Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Both teams know that they are through to the last-16 where they will face either England or Belgium. Senegal have an easier path to the knockout stage needing only a draw to secure their place.

Colombia have recovered well from their shaky opening game against Japan that saw Carlos Sánchez Moreno sent off just three minutes into the game. Their victory over bottom of the group Poland last week has given them one last chance to qualify for the round of 16.

Senegal have been very fortunate in the competition so far, managing a win over Poland and a draw with group leader Japan. Their win over Poland came on the back of several mistakes including an own goal from Thiago Cionek. They gave Japan too many chances when the two teams met last week. They will need to correct their defensive issues ahead of Thursday’s game.

Odds

Senegal: 7/2

Colombia: 5/6

Draw: 5/2

Prediction

Colombia’s offence will be their key to victory against a Senegal side that has already shown it has trouble defending. Senegal are in the better position out of the two sides as they only need a draw despite this Colombia are favourites to win.

Good work from Japan, the ball comes into the box from the right and H Sakai dives backwards to clear the ball with his head, Poland have a corner though and it comes in, but Kawashima makes a good save

23 mins: SENEGAL 0 - 0 COLOMBIA

Colombia win a free kick about 30 yards out, it was a soft decision but Keita flicks it into the box and Falcao gets their first but his header is well wide... it's a bad miss but it wouldn't have mattered as he was offside anyway

Gueye sends Mane through the defence and it's a great run, but Sanchez is there with another great block!

The ball comes out to Keita who shoots! But it sails into the keepers hands

Great save from Kawashima! The ball is delivered into the box from the right wing and Grosicki is in space in the box, he heads the ball towards the bottom left corner and Kawashima gets a strong right hand to the ball and pulls it out of goal! That one was right on the line

Mane is quick again, he gets the ball about 40 yards out, turns and runs towards the defence but he's brought down by C Sanchez, and Senegal have a free kick but Sane pumps it high over the bar

39 mins: SENEGAL 0 - 0 COLOMBIA

There's been a break in play as Mojica went down holding his left leg, but he's back on his feet now and he defends well against Sarr who shanks his cross behind the goal

43 mins: SENEGAL 0 - 0 COLOMBIA

Colombia get the ball into the box for the first time in ages, but Koulibaly clears it easily and the ball comes out to Mane, whose brought down in a dangerous position.

The free kick is delivered into the area looking for Kouyate but it's over him and goes for a goal kick
