From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Gareth Southgate has insisted the team he names will not necessarily be the one that starts the World Cup against Tunisia on 18th June but there are places still up for grabs.
Jordan Pickford starts between the sticks with Jesse Lingard part of an attacking midfield that also includes Raheem Sterling after a controversial and headline-grabbing week.

Odds?
England: 2/5
Nigeria: 19/2
Odds: 62/17
27 mins: Nigeria attempting to impose themselves a little more and Ighalo, once of Watford, snatches at a shot in the box when the ball bounces fortuitously for him.
Stones eventually hacks clear after the smallest of goalmouth scrambles.
Much better from the Super Eagles though. More of the same needed.
29 mins: Another chance for England.
Lovely interplay in the midfield sees the ball fed wide to Trippier who immediately fires a teasing ball to the near post.
It's met by Lingard but his toe poke can't beat the keeper, who saves for a corner.
England getting a lot of joy down the left flank of Nigeria's back line.
33 mins: Whisper it quietly, but England are playing some really good stuff here.
The standard of opposition must be taken into account of course - Nigeria have been poor thus far - but England's intent and attitude have been first class.
This shape looks to really suit the likes of Sterling, Alli and particularly Lingard and while it may leave them a little exposed against better teams eg. Belgium, this feels the way Southgate will choose to set up against Tunisia perhaps and definitely Panama.
Another flurry sees a Sterling shot saved and then a Lingard effort blocked away for a corner.
37 mins: A shot. A Nigerian shot.
Yes, do not adjust your sets, but some sharp work from Ighalo sees him work an opening on the edge of the area.
He fires in a rasping effort but Pickford is more than equal to it.
At the other end Sterling is again afforded far too much space and after a quicksilver turn his rising shot is always rising too much and it remains just the 1-0.
GOAL! England's lead is two.
The hosts once again are given far too much space and this time Sterling chooses to pass rather than shoot and Kane, albeit given a juicy helping hand from the keeper, rifles in.
That's how you finish. England 2-0 Nigeria.
44 mins: England looking to see out the half here.
Nigeria have other ideas though and will hope to test Pickford more than they have - almost not at all - before the break.
Moses attacks Trippier down the outside before coming back inside and firing a shot in.
It's far too straight though and Pickford gathers easily. Into added time.
↵Half-time: And that's the first 45 in the books.
Gary Cahill gave England the lead after just six minutes leaping highest to head in a corner before Harry Kane doubled the lead just before the break with an efficient and incisive finish.
Gareth Southgate will be very happy with how his side have looked so far. Plenty to be optimistic about.
In different ways two very good finishes for England's two goals so far.
Kick-off: We're back underway at Wembley.
Nigeria have made changes, two of them, but with 12 people on the bench I'm no getting into who for who and that whole downward spiral. They're fresh legs, that's all you need to know.
They do appear to have changed shape, to a back three to match England, so that is worth remarking on. And I have.
