From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Three Lions pulled ahead after just five minutes through Kieran Trippier's sublime free-kick and for the following 62 minutes it was England who looked set for a place in the final.
But Ivan Perisic levelled for Croatia to take the game to extra-time before Mario Mandzukic struck in the 109th minute to put Zlatko Dalic's men in front.
England pushed on but were ultimately unable to find an equaliser. They now face Belgium in Saturday's third-place decider while Croatia go through to the final where they meet France.

We are ready. The players are ready. Kick off just moments away. I've written this is HUGE a lot this World Cup. But this is HUGER? Is that a thing? It is now.
2 mins: Jesse Lingard gets an early chat from the referee as he looks to get in early and win the all-important midfield battle. England in white in this one, as Croatia line-up in their black away kit
I don't think a single England fan would complain if they won this one with another set piece...
4 mins: England have a free kick in a dangerous position on the edge of the box after a tricky run from Jesse Lingard. First big chance for either side.
GOAL! 5 mins: CROATIA 0-1 ENGLAND (Kieran Trippier)
England take the lead as Kieran Trippier gets his first international goal! And what a goal it was, into the top left corner out of Daniel Subasic's reach. It's another set piece goal, and is predicted we couldn't care less.
Wow. You aren't dreaming, this is really happening.
Kieran Trippier. What a tournament he has had, and got England off to the perfect start here.
9 mins: A Croatian corner cleared, but Dele got lucky after a back pass was almost intercepted by the Croatians. England almost break through Raheem Sterling, and that looks a brilliant outlet for the Three Lions.
Ed Malyon with some insight into the tactical side of the early plays in this one from the Luzhniki Stadium:
Jordan Pickford's flat, long kick probed the channel between ageing defenders Domagoj Vida and Ivan Strinic after he caught a looping, unthreatening cross.
Gareth Southgate's analysis team are big on finding the weakness in an opposition team - as you might expect! - and trying to send Raheem Sterling into the gap between two slower defenders is a very obvious ploy but one that might just work.
