From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Your support makes all the difference.England's World Cup dream has come to an end after the side were beaten 2-1 after extra-time by Croatia.
The Three Lions pulled ahead after just five minutes through Kieran Trippier's sublime free-kick and for the following 62 minutes it was England who looked set for a place in the final.
But Ivan Perisic levelled for Croatia to take the game to extra-time before Mario Mandzukic struck in the 109th minute to put Zlatko Dalic's men in front.
England pushed on but were ultimately unable to find an equaliser. They now face Belgium in Saturday's third-place decider while Croatia go through to the final where they meet France.
Here's how it happened:

Jack Pitt-Brooke gives us his thoughts at the break from the Luzhniki Stadium:
"I've been very impressed with England in the first half. They should have scored more than they have, with the chances they've created up against that very shaky looking Croatia defence. Every time Raheem Sterling runs at them they look terrified. But it's still only 1-0 and Croatia have shown flashes of threat on the ball, especially when Rebic and Vrsaljko run at Ashley Young. So England can't relax until they get a second goal."
The reaction keeps on coming...here's Jonathan Liew with his thoughts on the first-half from Moscow.
Croatia coming back into it towards the end of that second half. For all the euphoria of that early lead, England haven't actually been that fluent, and two or three times Jordan Pickford's been put in a spot of bother. Ashley Young made one superb sliding clearance but otherwise has been a touch ponderous. You can definitely see Croatia coming back into this in the second half and camping out in the England half. England need a second goal.
Whilst Miguel Delaney discusses Croatian fatigue and England expertise:
England looking better than I've seen them this tournament, and that's not just to do with the level of opposition. Croatia don't even look that good, and actually seem physically jaded, but that's almost beside the point. England are doing everything well, and I think the Croatia we saw against Argentina (although still one of the most overrated displays of the tournament) would struggle against them. While Croatia are so sloppy, England are so focused in almost everything they do.
England fans not enjoying the pitch at the Luzhniki Stadium, from this image you can see the pitch beginning to cut up.
SECOND HALF: Croatia get us back underway. 45 minutes from the World Cup final. Crazy.
48 mins: Ante Rebic picks up the first yellow card for a foul on Kyle Walker
50 mins: Five minutes into the half, and England haven't really got going. Croatia have it all to do, and they're trying their best to set the tone for this second half. England must not fall into the trap of settling into defence, with such attacking talent upfield
54 mins: A couple of times this half Harry Kane has been fouled, and the referee has waved away England appeals. A tough game so far for Kane but may be pivotal late on as they break.
Kyle Walker picks up a yellow card for a needless reaction to a tackle. England have got to keep calm and stay disciplined.
56 mins: Lingard with the strike after Kane and then Sterling combine to play in the Manchester United attacker but it's over the bar. Corner for England, return of the love train.
The corner is cleared but the resulting cross from Trippier leaves Kane with a flying header, that he is centimetres from connecting with. Close.
