Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

All eyes will be on Lionel Messi as the 30-year-old Argentina star bids to lift the trophy for what looks likely to be his final World Cup tournament.

Group D kicks off with a clash against Iceland in Moscow, who are starting the tournament pretty confident after knocking England out of the Euro 2016.

Argentina should tread lightly though - Iceland could end up being the underdogs in the so-called 'Group of Death' as their track record has proven after drawing with Portugal at its European Championships debut two years ago.

With Iceland also reaching this stage for the first time in their history, they will be putting up a good fight to keep that momentum going.

What time is kick-off?

Argentina vs Iceland kicks off at 2pm BST.

Where can I watch it?

The game will be shown on ITV.

Odds

Argentina: 1/3

Iceland: 9/1

Draw: 4/1

Prediction

Argentina 4-2 Iceland. Both squads will be keen to get out of their groups, but it will certainly be entertaining to watch Iceland's star player Gylfi Sigurdsson give the Argentines a tough time.

But who do you think will win? Let us know by voting above.

Can Lionel Messi replicate Cristiano Ronaldo's heroics last night or will Iceland, the smallest nation ever to qualify for the World Cup spring a surprise on their South American opponents?

3 min: The Adidas Telstar ball, which had to be replaced twice in France's game earlier today is having more trouble here.

New balls, please.

Ah, that's next week.

5 min: Steady start to the game from both sides. Argentina with the best opening, Otamendi flashing a header narrowly wide of the post.

7 min: A rather poor free-kick from Lionel Messi is flicked on cleverly by Tagliafico with the ball going narrowly wide.
