Liverpool beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 away on Saturday thanks to two late goals in a scintillating comeback that sent the Reds - at least temporarily - to the top of the Premier League table.

The hosts dominated the first half at Molineux against an unusually sloppy Liverpool, with Hwang Hee-chan stroking in a 7th minute goal after a brilliant run from Pedro Neto, before Wolves missed a string of further chances.

Liverpool came out transformed in the second half, however, and Mohamed Salah set up fellow striker Cody Gakpo for a tap-in equaliser in the 55th minute.

Wearing the captain’s armband on his 200th Premier League appearance, Andy Robertson slid in Liverpool’s second from another Salah pass in the 85th minute as the visitors poured forward.

Liverpool made it three in time added on, with Wolves’ Hugo Bueno touching the ball into his own net from a shot by Harvey Elliott, sending the away fans into delirium.

The result put Liverpool top of the table for now on 13 points after five games. Wolves are 15th on three points.

Wolves 1-3 Liverpool: match report

Liverpool’s late show fired Jurgen Klopp’s men to a 3-1 comeback win at Wolves.

Andrew Robertson and Hugo Bueno’s own goal saw the Reds escape Molineux with a victory which looked unlikely at half-time.

Hwang Hee-Chan’s early opener gave Wolves the lead as the hosts dominated and only a woeful miss by Matheus Cunha stopped them going further ahead.

Liverpool were wretched in the first half but slowly improved, levelling through Cody Gakpo before breaking Wolves’ resistance with four minutes left for a third comeback win of the season.

Klopp: “We have a really good squad and a super bench today. There is no quality no doubt about it, but even with quality you can play really bad and that’s what we did in the first half.”

Klopp on Robertson: “He didn’t score that many goals because his goalscoring record would not be great. An amazing player for us, super consistent over the years.

“I think Curtis made his 100th game today which is pretty special.”

Jurgen Klopp to TNT Sport: “It was that bad that I didn’t think we could play the second half like that.

“Low energy level, sometimes as well you could just see they struggled and we changed the system and one player and had a bit more speed up front.

“We changed pretty much everything at half time. The first half was really bad but the second half was really good.

“Massive three points. Wolves did exceptionally well, they caused us so many problems, especially one on one situations with Neto that we shouldn’t have let happen.”

Robertson on Salah: “Even during the speculation I thought he was superb on the pitch. Now that’s done and dusted I think he put in a good second half performance.

“Second half he was really good and probably the difference for us.”

Andy Robertson to TNT Sport: “We obbviouly weren’t at the races first half. I think it took us 45 minutes to get into it, Wolves were the better team and we made too many mistakes.

“I think we dominated the second half and probably got the right result based on the second half performance.

On his goal: “I don’t get many goals so it’s always nice to score. I just thought I might as well go in there, Mo (Salah) can always pick a pass.”

Full time: After 100 minutes, Michael Oliver has blown for full time as the game just meandered to the finish.

Well that was far from straightforward, and it looked at half time like Wolves might have gone on to win the game.

But Liverpool, as they have done so often, have just come into the game at the right time, made the right subsitutions and gone up a gear or two.

It was capped off by Robertson’s goal to put Liverpool ahead, but Salah should also recieve the plaudits for his three assists.

90+4 mins: Salah has come off for new Liverpool signing Gravenberch for the final few minutes of added time now that the result is no longer in doubt.

Elliott will be disappointed as the goal has been awarded a Bueno own goal following the fortunate deflection.
