Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Newcastle United LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction
Re-live all the action from Molineux Stadium
Newcastle United fought back from a halftime deficit with two long-range strikes in the space of five minutes to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Molineux on Sunday and move into third place in the Premier League.
Fabian Schar’s speculative effort took a deflection to draw Newcastle level after Wolves captain Mario Lemina’s 36th-minute goal had put the hosts ahead at the break as they chased a first league success of the season.
But while there might have been an element of fortune about Schar’s 75th-minute goal, there was no luck involved as Harvey Barnes thrashed home a spectacular winner five minutes later.
Both efforts came from outside the penalty area and dramatically turned around the outcome after struggling Wolves had dominated most of the encounter.

Semedo has been a constant for Wolves up and down the right flank, having their first shot on target early on and creating one big chance from three final-third passes. The defender has contested a game-high 13 duels, winning six, including three successful dribbles from four attempts and winning two of his three attempted tackles.

There's the half-time whistle, and for the very first time this season, Wolves lead with a 1-0 advantage over Newcastle going into the break! The visitors had a whopping 63.3 per cent possession in the first half, but were kept at arm's length by Wolves, managing just 0.26 xG as efforts from Isak and Murphy were kept out before Gordon hit the post. The hosts, meanwhile, saw Semedo and Bellegarde test Pope with speculative efforts, before a fast break saw Strand Larsen tee up Lemina to sweep home the opener! That still amounted to just 0.63 xG however, and both sides will be keen to create much more in the final third once the second half gets underway.
