Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Premier League's January transfer window is upon us with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea all set to be busy.

Liverpool were the summer's biggest spenders with no fewer than four new arrivals. Goalkeeper Alisson was the headline-grabber with the Brazilian already proving worth every penny of the world-record fee the Reds shelled out for the Brazilian. Could long-term target Nabil Fekir join him next month? United got a couple of new faces in through the door in the summer but it hasn't made a difference with Jose Mourinho out and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in. Will he spend them out of trouble in the January sales?

Chelsea have made the biggest splash with the signing of Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic while Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal could all choose to dip their toes in the water as they battle for an all-important top four spot. We will have all the latest news, views, rumours, gossip and done deals right here so don't touch that dial.

Atlanta United star Miguel Almiron is in danger of pricing himself out of a move to Newcastle.

The 24-year-old Paraguay playmaker has been identified as a key January transfer target by Rafael Benitez and his recruitment team, who have been attempting to put a deal in place for some time.

However, it is understood the player's wage demands, which amount to in excess of £100,000 a week, and agent fees are major stumbling blocks.

Indeed, sources on Tyneside have described the figures involved as "astronomical", with the gap between what the Almiron camp wants and what the Magpies are prepared to pay a significant distance apart.

Chelsea have already been busy this month with the signing of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund but could be about to add a second winger this month.

Calciomercato report that the Blues are preparing an offer for PSV winger Hirving Lozano.

The 23-year-old impressed at the World Cup last summer and is said to be valued around £35m.

PSG could well have won the race for Ajax duo Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutch pair are two of the most sought after players in Europe with some of biggest clubs around keen.

But Marca report that the French champions have made an offer that chief rivals Barcelona cannot match as they hope to tie up a deal before the summer.

The 18-year-old winger could return to his native Portugal on a temporary basis as Liverpool want him to gain more first-team experience despite playing against Wolves on Monday night.

Manchester United have made a new centre-back their No 1 target this month.

And The Sun report that Roma's Kostas Manolas is one being considered.

The Greek international defender has a £32m buyout clause.

Back to Arsenal where Aaron Ramsey is said to have agreed his next move.

The Welsh international is out of contract in the summer and with no new deal forthcoming is free to talk to foreign clubs.

One of those is Juventus who, according to reports in Italy, have persuaded Ramsey to sign a pre-contract agreement with them.

He'll join for nothing on July 1 as the likes of Bayern Munich, PSG and Real Madrid miss out.

Lazio have denied reaching an agreement with Liverpool winger Bobby Adekanye and say they are not in negotiations to sign the 19-year-old.

Nigeria-born Holland youth international Adekanye, who joined Liverpool from Barcelona in 2015, has been linked with Lazio in the last few days.

But the Serie A club denied any agreement in an official statement on Monday.

Burnley could move for West Brom's Matt Phillips this month.

Sean Dyche is looking for additions as he looks to keep the Clarets from the drop.

And the Mirror report that the Scotland international is one of them. Cardiff are also interested.

Chelsea could be set for a significant overhaul this month.

They've already signed Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund but are targeting more reinforcements.

The Mirror report that they remain interested in Bournemouth's Callum Wilson and could also look for a new defender with Gary Cahill likely to leave.

Cesc Fabregas is set for Monaco and a reunion with former Arsenal teammate Thierry Henry.

Valencia will make a move for West Ham United‘s Javier Hernandez in January, and believe the Mexican international wants to return to La Liga.

The Spanish club are eager to change their goal-shy attack due to the struggles of Kevin Gameiro and Michy Batshuayi, with the latter set to return to Chelsea after an unsatisfactory loan move.

Valencia’s financial situation means they would favour a similar temporary move for Hernandez, but that is seen as the main obstacle to any deal.
