From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The January transfer window has shut and Premier League sides will have to make do with what they have until the summer beyond free agents.
Crystal Palace's late swoop for Michy Batshuayi on loan should provide intrigue with the Belgian flopping at Valencia and requiring a fresh start, and with the Eagles still to face Man United, Arsenal and Tottenham, he could still aid Chelsea this season.
Arsenal wrapped up the loan (with an option to buy) signing of Barcelona's Denis Suarez to give Unai Emery an alternative option, whilst Newcastle's club record £21 million move for Miguel Almiron should please Rafa Benitez after a turbulent few weeks.

A transfer update from SJA Sports Feature Writer of the Year Award nominee Jack Pitt-Brooke:
Sunderland have bid £300,000 for Leyton Orient striker Josh Koroma. The League One club want to boost their striking options after losing Josh Maja, so have targeted the 20-year-old who has been impressing for Orient in the National League this season.
Hogan joins Sheffield United on loan
Sheffield United have signed striker Scott Hogan from Aston Villa on loan for the rest of the season.
Hogan, 26, who has made just six league appearances for Villa this campaign, is the Blades' third signing in the current transfer window.
"I've made no secret of my admiration for Scott and his abilities. We made enquiries about him in the last window and we've had to be patient," Blades boss Chris Wilder told the club's official website.
"He is a player we know a lot about and we are confident that he will be a great addition to what we already have.
"Scott had options but he made it clear that he wanted to join us and that goes a long way in my book."
Republic of Ireland international Hogan began his professional career at Rochdale and scored 19 goals in 40 appearances in his only season at Spotland before he sealed a permanent move to Brentford in 2014.
He scored 21 times in 36 games for Brentford and was signed by Villa for a reported fee of £12million in January 2017.
The Blades signed midfielder Kieran Dowell and Gary Madine, on loan from Everton and Cardiff respectively, earlier this month.
An update from Ed Malyon:
PSG are close to signing Ajax full-back Mitchel Bakker.
The 18-year-old defender is one of a well-considered bunch of players emerging from the Amsterdam club's academy at the moment and, after missing out on Frenkie De Jong, Paris Saint-Germain look to have beaten the rest of Europe to him.
Five-year contract, according to reports in the Netherlands.
AFC Wimbledon have signed Shane McLoughlin on a permanent deal from Championship side Ipswich.
The 21-year-old midfielder could be in contention for his Dons debut in Saturday's League One match at Sunderland.
"Shane is versatile and very sharp and accurate on the ball," manager Wally Downes told the Dons website.
""He has great energy, a superb attitude, and he fits the age bracket we want. He is the type of player that we want here.
"Shane has been on my radar for ages. A couple of friends I know that used to play for Ipswich told me about him quite a while ago, so I kept my eye on him.
"He is young and hungry to do well, which is what we want, and he has a great attitude."
🚨🚨 Done deal klaxon! 🚨🚨
Sunderland have confirmed the loan of Celtic’s Lewis Morgan.
And in startling news the winger, who has made 13 appearances for Celtic in all competitions this season, can’t wait to get started on Wearside.
He said: “Something special is happening at the club this season, and hopefully I can contribute to that.”
Ed Malyon:
Barcelona have made a move to strengthen their B team and taken a chance on a Brazilian youngster.
Sao Paulo forward Gabriel Novaes is signing on loan with an option to buy.
The 18-year-old will play in the Spanish Segunda B.
They have been the three words to define this absolutely thrilling January transfer window: OPTION. TO. BUY.
It seems that cash-strapped English clubs are incredibly reluctant to actually agree to purchase anybody in the summer, which is precisely why Sardar Azmoun’s move to Wolves from Rubin Kazan has fallen through.
The sides had agreed on a £1.75m loan fee with a £11.5m fee to be paid in the summer, only for the deal to collapse because Kazan wanted it as an obligation to buy, whereas Wolves were only willing to commit to an option to buy.
And anyway – Azmoun is still in Russia so wouldn’t have been able to get to the UK in time for a medical. D’oh!
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has the following to say on Denis Suarez:
We are very happy that Denis Suarez is joining us. He is a player we know well and I have worked with him at Sevilla. He brings us quality and options in many different attacking positions, so he’ll be able to help the team.
