There have already been some big deals this transfer window. Manchester United wasted no time in snapping up Daniel James from Swansea City for £18m, while Eden Hazard finally completed his protracted move from Chelsea to Real Madrid, for a fee which could ultimately exceed £100m.

A number of big deals are meanwhile still in the pipeline. Both Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen have indicated that they want ‘new challenges’, while Matthijs de Ligt is a top target for just about every European super club. Where will he end up? Follow all of the latest below:

Arsenal are meanwhile set to push on with their first signing of the summer with a bid for Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser set to be lodged. A new centre-back is high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s priority list at United with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Leicester’s Harry Maguire both options. Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka is another on the Norwegian’s radar.

It won’t just be incomings at Old Trafford, however, with Pogba a high-profile target for Real Madrid and Alexis Sanchez on his way out with Inter Milan and Juventus fighting it out for his signature – if he drops his wage demands. And Liverpool could be active too as they look to go one better after failing to win the Premier League title by just a single point.

Palace repel Wan-Bissaka interest

Manchester United have had a bid rejected for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to Miguel Delaney

The proposal, which could allegedly have risen to as much as £50 million, was not acceptable to Palace. The club have no need to sell the defender, and will therefore hold firm unless their valuation of around £70 million is matched.

The young defender established himself as one of the hottest prospects in the league with a strong 2018/19, although the England u21 international has still yet to receive a senior cap. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to strengthen his his defence, which was a problem area last season.

Manchester City in for Rodri

Pep Guardiola is on course to make his first signing of the summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Manchester City have signalled a willingness to meet the Atletico Madrid midfielder's £63 million release clause. Primarily a defensive player, City may well view him as a long-term heir to Fernandinho. Manchester United also have a reported interest, but the player prefers a move to the Champions League semi-finalists.

This looks set to be just one part of a summer of change at the Wanda Metropolitano, where rumours abound that Griezmann will leave. João Félix has been mentioned as an incoming player, but Benfica have categorically denied that a deal has been struck.

Growing doubts over Griezmann transfer

Spanish publication AS report that Barcelona's proposed move for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is in jeopardy.

Less than a week ago the Atleti CEO appeared to confirm that the French forward will make the move to the Catalan club, but counterpart Josep Maria Bartomeu has apparently denied holding any talks.

Luis Suarez added fuel to the fire by giving a cagey response to questions about Griezmann, in stark contrast to his effusive praise of former teammate Neymar amidst rumours of a return for the Brazilian.

City to go for Cancelo

Manchester City have increased their initial bid for Joao Cancelo and forced a breakthrough in talks, according to Goal.

Initial interest had not materialised into a deal, but while City are still not believed to have offered the asking price it appears that an agreement is now close. Guardiola is ready to let Danilo go, so Cancelo would replace the Brazilian in the squad.

Given the earlier-reported interest in Atletico Madrid's Rodri, it looks as though summer spending at The Etihad may be about to ramp up.

Mata set to stay at United

31-year-old Spain international Juan Mata is expected to have his contract renewed at Manchester United, per the Manchester Evening News.

The future of the former Chelsea man has been in doubt for some months, but Mata wished to focus on the run-in while the season was still ongoing. United ultimately finished sixth in the Premier League. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since decided to offer him a new contract, which looks set to be accepted.

The new deal is for one year, with the option of an additional year-long extension. There is also the possibility of an ambassadorial role at the club for Mata once he ends his playing career. The midfielder has impressed off the pitch with his foundation of the Common Goal project, aimed at persuading footballers to donate a percentage of their wages to charity.

English clubs in the hunt for Sarr

French outlet L'Equipe report that there is significant Premier League interest in Rennes forward Ismaila Sarr.

Watford are believed to have had a 30-million-euro bid rejected, but their attempts to secure his signature are not necessarily at an end. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are expected to lodge a bid of their own in the coming days that would put them in pole position.

Sarr returned eight goals and seven assists in 35 appearances in Ligue 1 last season.

Amadou Diawara not keen on Wolves move

Wolverhampton Wanderers have not been successful in their pursuit of Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara, report Sky Italia.

In a wide-ranging Napoli update, the Italian outlet confirmed that the Guinea international has rejected Wolves in order to hold out for a transfer to Roma.

Diawara made just eight league starts for the Naples outfit in 2018/19, but while he is expected to leave the club he would rather link up with new Roma coach Paulo Fonseca than leave for The Midlands.
