From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. With deadline day under a week away, the January transfer window continues to heat up after yet more movement this week.
Hull look set to lose Robert Snodgrass to either West Ham or Burnley as Marco Silva looks set to lose another key player at the Tigers, while Everton’s Gerard Deulofeu left the Premier League for AC Milan, also on loan.
Manchester City remain the only top-six side to complete a move for a new player this month but will there be any late big-name deals elsewhere? After Liverpool's defeat by Southampton in the EFL Cup, fans may well feel that a new signing is now needed more than ever to halt the side's recent decline.
And of course, Dimitri Payet's West Ham future remains as unclear as it has done throughout this entire transfer window.

Possibly why West Ham are struggling with Marseille's Payet negotiations
Another done deal it would seem!
Sky Sources report that Crystal Palace have agreed a fee of £14m for Sunderland defender Patrick van Aanholt.
The Dutchman spent five years at Chelsea between 2009 and 2014, being loaned out to a number of clubs during that period, before signing for the Black Cats.
After two years at the Stadium of Light, Van Aanholt returns to London to join Sam Allardyce at Selhurst Park.
Brentford have put pen to paper on a new signing ahead of their FA Cup fourth-round showdown with Chelsea. The club have signed Florian Jozefzoon from PSV. I can't quite tell if he looks pleased or regretful...
Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce on the Patrick van Aanholt deal which is currently in the pipeline and close to completion.
"Until the medical is over and done with (I can't say anymore). He is just in the process at the moment," said Allardyce.
"We've had many players with a similar condition, it is quite common and it is just a precaution we have to take. I wouldn't imagine it would be a problem. I've dealt with two players in the past with similar conditions. I think the medical will be OK, and he will be OK to join us."
