At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Long-term Manchester United target Nicolas Gaitan has put the Premier League on red alert after his agent confirmed he wanted to leave Atletico Madrid in January.
The Argentinian left Benfica for Atleti in 2016 amidst interest from Old Trafford but has failed to fold down a regular place in Diego Simeone’s side, and has managed just 12 appearances in all competitions this season.
But it now appears as though the 29-year-old will finally make the move to the Premier League with his agent Jose Iribarrenadmitting his client “can’t continue in these conditions”.
Southampton have not held talks with Manchester City regarding the transfer of Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk according to manager Mauricio Pellegrino.
City are interested in taking the defender to the Etihad in the January transfer window.
"I was with (Southampton vice-chairman) Les Reed talking about that but nobody knows about that," Pellegrino said.
"I know Virgil is an important player and around him will be a lot of speculation like other important players in the squad. I cannot control this and I don't want to talk about it."

Ross Barkley's experience and talent will earn him a spot in the Everton team despite the midfielder being "at loggerheads" with the club and refusing to commit his future to them, manager Sam Allardyce said.
"I wouldn't have any hesitation about playing Ross Barkley, purely because of his experience and his talent," Allardyce said.
"You cannot see or get too many players who are more talented than him in today's age of football. How he uses that talent is the big question for Ross now.
"He had a knockback with the injury, he has been at loggerheads with the club over his future but that has been out of my hands."
