From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The transfer window is open which means it's that time of year when stories of clubs spending ludicrous sums of money on players you've never heard of is par for the course. Here, we take a look at some of today's more intriguing rumours...

Fernando Torres or Demba Ba could be sold, that is if a deal is agreed for Wayne Rooney to come to Chelsea from Manchester United. The striker is Chelsea’s biggest priority this summer and the club are confident of the signing despite David Moyes being insistent Rooney is not for sale.

Ex United player Cristiano Ronaldo who has been linked only with a return to Old Trafford, is now a target of local rivals Manchester City, who are set to offer the Real Madrid star a staggering £300,000 a week.

Another battle between the Manchester clubs seems to be over Montenegro striker Stevan Jovetic. Jovetic, who has been liked with City, is now Manchester United's top striker target after missing out on Borussia Dortmund's Robert Lewandowski.

White Hart Lane looks set for some movement as Tottenham are to bid £20m for Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic. On the way out are midfielders Scott Parker and Tom Huddlestone. Parker is wanted by former club West Ham whilst Huddlestone is set for a £5m move to Sunderland.

Down the road at Arsenal and its former favourite Cesc Fabregas who is being linked with a move back to the Emirates. Arsene Wenger is believed to have first refusal on the Spanish midfielder in a deal that is believed to be around £25m.

Finally, Celtic look to receive a record transfer fee by a Scottish Club as Victor Wanyama is to be unveiled at Southampton on Friday for £12.5m.
