From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

This is not Denis Suarez' first foray to these shores.
He spent time in the Manchester City youth system, winning the club's Young Player of the Year award in 2012, but making just two League Cup appearances before returning to his homeland for his first stint at Barcelona.
Very good stock image modelling from Denis Suarez in his announcement photos. Stone faced, show the badge, cross the arms to show you mean business.
Ten hours left in the window - will Denis Suarez be the only deadline day signing at Arsenal?
Idrissa Gueye will be staying at Everton, but could the arrival of Luciano Acosta in Paris free up Christopher Nkunku?
Football writer Matt Spiro, who is based in France, is suggesting that Christopher Nkunku is keen on a loan move to Arsenal, but the sticking point at the moment is the option to buy in the summer.
Arsenal are currently offering €20 million, but PSG want considerably more.
Not a whole lot happening with regards to movement in or out of Arsenal.
Emile Smith Rowe's impending loan deal to RB Leipzig has another two-and-a-half hours or so to be completed in.
Consistent reports now emerging that the move for Christopher Nkunku is, at best, extremely unlikely.
Still the best part of seven hours left in the window, but it seems this is a transfer that will not happen, and the midfielder will stay at PSG.
So at this time, it seems it is one in, one out for Arsenal on deadline day.
The signing of Denis Suarez was confirmed earlier, and Emile Smith Rowe should be announced as an RB Leipzig player soon. Arsenal will be hoping the youngster can prosper in the Bundesliga and, with no option included in that deal to make it permanent in the summer, return to the club an improved player.
We will, of course, update you of any other transfer developments, but at this stage, further moves seem unlikely.
