‘I hope Ronaldo stays’: United’s Casemiro urges friend to remain at Old Trafford

The transfer window closed with a flurry of late activity, as Chelsea signed the former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a two-year deal from Barcelona. Aubameyang, who will wear the number 9 shirt at Stamford Bridge, was finally announced after midnight and was followed by the loan signing of midfielder Denis Zakaria from Juventus as Chelsea’s busy summer of transfer business concluded with two major deals.

Liverpool signed Arthur on loan from Juventus to ease their midfield injury problems but Arsenal‘s late chase of Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz ended in disappointment. Arsenal saw three bids rejected, the last around £25m, with Aston Villa holding out for £40m for a player out of contract next summer.

Earlier, Manchester United completed the signing of Antony from Ajax for €100m in the biggest deal of transfer deadline day. The Brazilian international has put pen to paper on a contract at Old Trafford that runs until 2027, and was followed by goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, who has joined on a season-long loan from Newcastle.

Elsewhere, Manuel Akanji sealed his move to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund on a five-year deal while Leicester made their first outfield signing of the window as they announced the arrival of Belgium international Wout Faes from Reims. He replaces Wesley Fofana, who joined Chelsea for £70m on Wednesday.

Done deal! Chelsea sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Chelsea have signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona, with the Gabon striker signing a two-year contract to seal a return to the Premier League, the two clubs said on Thursday.

The transfer was announced well after the 2200 GMT deadline but Chelsea had submitted the paperwork to the Premier League in time after the former Arsenal striker arrived in London late on Thursday.

Barcelona said they reached an agreement where Chelsea paid €12m to bolster their front line with Aubameyang, who previously thrived under manager Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund.

“I’m really happy. It’s an honour to be part of this team and I can’t wait to start. I have some unfinished business with the Premier League so it’s good to be back and really exciting,” Aubameyang said in a statement.

Done deal! Brighton sign Billy Gilmour from Chelsea

It went right to the wire, but Brighton eventually got the signing of Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour over the line. For less than £10m, is the 21-year-old Scotland international midfielder a potential coup?

“Billy arrives with a fantastic pedigree, having played in the Premier League and Champions League as well as for Scotland at last year’s Euros,” said Graham Potter on Brighton’s official website.

“He will complement our existing midfield options. That experience at quite a young age shows the strength of character he has and we’re really excited by his potential. Now it’s about allowing him the time to get used to a new environment and settling in to our club. We can’t wait to work with him.”

DONE DEAL! Chelsea sign Aubameyang!

Chelsea have signed the former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a two-year deal from Barcelona.

After weeks of negotiations, Chelsea finally agreed terms with Barcelona on a deal that will see the Spain left back Marcos Alonso move in the other direction, plus a fee.

Barcelona had been keen to part ways with Aubameyang, who was signed by the Spanish club in January after he was dropped by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, due to their financial difficulties and the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wanted to strengthen his attacking options following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner and is reunited with the striker he previously coached at Borussia Dortmund.

According to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, Aubameyang’s camp and Barcelona were forced to compromise on their demands in order for the deal to get over the line before the transfer deadline.

Done deal! Brighton sign Billy Gilmour from Chelsea

Brighton have completed the signing of Billy Gilmour from Chelsea in what is believed to be a £9m deal. The 21-year-old Scotland international was told he was not part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the season and after a challenging loan spell at Norwich last year, Gilmour will hope to find a better home on the south coast.

Gilmour has signed a four-year deal and Brighton manager Graham Potter said: “Billy arrives with a fantastic pedigree, having played in the Premier League and Champions League as well as for Scotland at last year’s Euros. He will complement our existing midfield options.

“That experience at quite a young age shows the strength of character he has and we’re really excited by his potential. Now it’s about allowing him the time to get used to a new environment and settling in to our club. We can’t wait to work with him.”
