Premier League: All the transfer rumours as deadline day approaches

Chelsea have completed the signing of Enzo Fernandez for £106m, in what is a British transfer record. The Blues met Benfica’s release clause for the Argentina midfielder shortly before Tuesday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

A statement from the Portuguese side confirmed the deal past midnight after Chelsea rushed to complete the transfer.

It came after Manchester United signed Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich until the end of the season. The Austria international adds to United’s midfield options after Christian Eriksen was ruled out for three months with an ankle injury.

Brighton held on to midfielder Moises Caicedo, but Arsenal turned their attention to another target and signed Jorginho from Premier League rivals Chelsea in a £13m deal.

Elsewhere, Tottenham confirmed the signing of right back Pedro Porro, with Matt Doherty joining Atletico Madrid on a free transfer after his contract with Spurs was terminated by mutual agreement.

Mykhailo Mudryk unlikely to face ban over racial slur in TikTok video

Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk is unlikely to face a ban for using a racial slur in a social media post, the PA news agency understands.

The Ukrainian has apologised via a statement from his representatives for using the term while reciting song lyrics in a TikTok video.

The Football Association is seeking clarification and observations from Mudryk and his club over when the recording was made, when it was posted online and when it was deleted.

While the FA is able to charge players for discriminatory behaviour away from a football setting under new guidelines issued in 2020, PA understands the FA is unlikely to charge the player in this case based on the information it already holds about it, and instead is likely to remind Mudryk of his responsibilities.

Leicester still hoping for Harrison

Leicester are still interested in Leeds United’s Jack Harrison. The Foxes had a £20m bid rejected last week and Harrison is said to be happy remaining at Elland Road.

However, Leicester are willing to offer a new deal to the 26-year-old but it is still more likely that the winger would leave in the summer with more options available.

Leeds would need a replacement in before selling Harrison and have asked about Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo.

Dean Henderson injury could prompt Nottingham Forest to sign goalkeeper

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has not ruled out signing a goalkeeper in the final hours of the January transfer window following an injury to Dean Henderson.

Forest were active again on Monday as former England midfielder Jonjo Shelvey underwent a medical ahead of a proposed moved from Newcastle, but injuries in the squad have forced Cooper to keep looking.

On-loan Manchester United stopper Henderson is facing four to six weeks out with a muscular injury – with Wales international Wayne Hennessey stepping up in his absence – and Cooper may seek further cover before the window closes on Tuesday night.

Caicedo staying at Brighton

Brighton have held onto their man. The Seagulls have seen off approaches from both Chelsea and Arsenal during this transfer window as neither club reached their specific valuation for the sought-after midfielder.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the Gunners have given up their pursuit of Caicedo after closing in on signing Jorginho from Chelsea. Brighton were adamant that Caicedo wouldn’t leave this month and that looks set to be the case now.
