Tottenham take on Newcastle today in a mouth-watering clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in both teams’ first Premier League match since the international break.

Newcastle suffered a disappointing defeat to Everton last time out but remain nine points clear of trouble despite back-to-back losses after an incredible unbeaten run to begin 2022 under Eddie Howe.

They face a stiff test travelling to north London where Spurs are having a rollercoaster season but are still chasing hard to finish in the top four.

Back-to-back wins over Brighton and West Ham have left Antonio Conte’s men three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, having played one game more, so they can ill-afford any mistakes in the race for Europe.

Full time: Tottenham 5-1 Newcastle

Game over and Spurs move up to fourth! Arsenal are in action on Monday night and will need a point or better to reclaim the spot.

Newcastle stay in 15th but the bigger concern for them will be their second half collapse, with all shape gone after a fine start and taking the lead.

Work for Eddie Howe to do again - but Antonio Conte will just be demanding his side show consistency now through to the end of the season.

89’ - Tottenham 5-1 Newcastle

Into the final moments. Guimaraes and Bergwijn have a bit of an argument stood either side of the referee.

Kane turns and shoots from about 25 yards but it’s wide of the near post.

Three minutes added on at the end of this game.

86’ - Tottenham 5-1 Newcastle

Oosh! Almost a quickfire brace for the Dutchman as he speeds behind the defence, latches onto a bouncing ball and fizzes in a half-volley which dips over Dubravka - and just over the crossbar! Inches in it.

Newcastle just haven’t sorted themselves out in this half at all.

Five for Spurs, none for Kane - but he has played a big role in creating more than one.

83’ - GOAL! Tottenham 5-1 Newcastle

Another one! Saint-Maximin loses the ball in midfield and the Spurs subs swarm forward, Lucas Moura prodding it on to Bergwijn who just lashes it into the bottom corner - he’s only been on the pitch about one minute!

TOT sub: Emerson replaced by Steven Bergwijn

80’ - Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle

Winks curls one from a long way out but it’s too high and sails over Dubravka’s bar. Antonio Conte ready to make his final change now as the Newcastle fans play a bit of keep-ball behind the goal. Into the final ten we go.

74’ - Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle

Heading toward the final 15 minutes now and the points are sealed, bar the most epic of collapses from the home side. It does not appear likely.

Newcastle having plenty of possesion but not doing a lot with it, with Spurs content to wait for their chance to pick off the ball and spring further counter-attacking chances.

Emerson is down off the ball, holding his face - Dan Burn ran across him and just ploughed him into the ground.

TOT subs: Winks on for Bentancur, Lucas Moura on for Kulusevski

70’ - Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle

Willock heads over the bar after a cross from the right, following Hojbjerg crumpling to ground after a slight touch on his chin.

At the other end Kane curls one toward goal, but it hits Emerson and flies wide.

NEW sub: Wood replaced by Lascelles.

66’ - Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle

Massive chance for another! Kane’s switch of play finds Son in an absolute acre of space, but he drags the ball wide of the far post on his left foot. Hojbjerg was waiting for a square ball too. Not the best finish from the South Korean in truth.

Newcastle have to sort themselves out at the back or it may get even more embarrassing.

63’ - GOAL! Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle

And that’s game over! The two wing-backs combine as Doherty twists back onto his right foot, clips over the ball and Emerson Royal, of all people, gets a toe to the ball to prod in off the post.

Not great work from Targett in the middle but Newcastle have lost all structure since Spurs’ equaliser really, a lack of positional and mental discipline on show.

62’ - Tottenham 3-1 Newcastle

Sweeping move from Newcastle as they move down the right flank, but Guimaraes’ ball is cut out with two waiting in the middle. If the visitors get the next goal it’ll be an interesting final 20 minutes or so, but Spurs still look dangerous with Kane and Kulusevski on the ball.
