Premier League reactions: Tottenham Hotspur v Brighton

Follow live coverage as Tottenham Hotspur face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League today.

Manchester City are reigning champions after beating Liverpool to the finish line in a neck-and-neck 2021/22 title race where a comeback win on the final day of the season against Aston Villa secured a fourth title in five years for Pep Guardiola's side.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds were on course for a quadruple last season but were forced to settle for just an FA Cup and Carabao Cup win and will return trying to win the title again just as they did in 2020.

It was a dramatic season for Chelsea a year ago with Roman Abramovich now replaced by Todd Boehly as owner in west London. He will want an instant return on his hefty investment at Stamford Bridge while Tottenham, back in the Champions League, will want to kick on once more too.

It's not all about the action at the top though with Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest promoted to the top tier for 2021/22 and hoping to hold their own against the best English football has to offer and avoid the drop.

We will bring you all the action and updates from today's game in the live blog below:

Tottenham's win keeps the pressure on Manchester United and Newcastle United, with Spurs only three points behind the pair heading into the final stretch of fixtures. They have played a game more than the two teams directly ahead of them, but have them both to play after hosting Bournemouth in their next match. As for Brighton, they are still in a strong position to qualify for the Europa League but have dropped behind Aston Villa in the table. Next up, they travel to Chelsea.

Tottenham secured a vital three points in their push for Champions League qualification, beating Brighton in a tense affair. Son put the hosts in the lead with a fantastic effort from the edge of the box, with Lloris making two astonishing saves to deny Mac Allister and Caicedo before being beaten by Dunk. The centre-back met March's curling corner from the right and powered in a header from close range. The Seagulls thought they had completed the comeback when Welbeck's strike came off Mac Allister and went into the net, but the ball hit the arm of the World Cup winner on the way through. Both managers then saw red before a game-changing moment. Mitoma was denied a penalty after being tripped by Hojbjerg, with the Denmank international playing a crucial role in the winning goal. Son found him down the right with the midfielder cutting it back to Kane who fired his deflected strike past Steele.

None of Tottenham's last 24 home league games have been drawn (W17 L7), with Spurs winning the last four in a row. None of the last nine managers to take charge of a Premier League game for Tottenham have lost their first home match in charge (W7 D2), since Clive Allen lost 2-1 against Blackburn in October 2007. They are moments away from a win.

March curls a cross into the box with Mitoma getting above his marker. He tries to head his effort towards the goal, but it was going off target before Dier clears away.
