Follow live coverage as Tottenham Hotspur face Brentford today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Postecoglou might have feared the worst when Brentford opened the scoring in the first minute of the contest, but Spurs were dominant after going behind. The hosts generated an xG of 2.11 in the first 45 minutes, compared to the Bees' xG of 0.35. Tottenham also attempted an incredible 17 shots in the first half as they carved through the Brentfrod defence with ease time and again, and having had six attempts on target, would be disappointed not to have increased their advantage. Brentford, on the other hand, attempted four shots of which three were on target. The possession stats have been almost even, with Spurs seeing 51.5% of the ball. The home side are now 79.6% favourites to win this fixture, according to the Opta supercomputers, and Frank's side have the odds stacked against them as they only have a 5.3% chance of taking the three points in north London today. It's an interesting second half that awaits us as the Bees look to fight back and salvage something out of this derby.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Brentford

It's been a relentless first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and it's the home side who carry a 2-1 lead against Brentford into the half-time break. After scoring inside the first minute against reigning champions City last week, the Bees repeated the feat here as Mbuemo fired in a brilliant volley to give the visitors an early lead. Spurs were left stunned, but they recovered in brilliant style as Solanke opened his account at his new club with an easy tap-in in the eighth minute. Postecoglou's side did not settle after restoring parity and Johnson pulled them ahead in the 28th minute. Tottenham continued to create openings, but that is not to say Brentford were without chances as Mbuemo tested Vicario four minutes from the break after the Spurs goalkeeper lost possession inside the box to Carvalho but the equaliser did not come. It's been an action-packed London derby this one but can we expect these two sides to keep up this energy after the interval?
