Southampton vs West Ham United
Juric's era at Southampton begins with a defeat, despite his Southampton side displaying a much better performance particularly in attack. A first half that saw both sides creating a host of chances ended in a stalemate, with Onuachu's three failed attempts from close range and Soler's shot coming off the post for West Ham being the defining moments of the early period. Bowen then put the Hammers ahead with an easy finish off a corner. Southampton lost much of the sting thereafter, but kept creating chances, more of them for Onuachu, who just could not make anything happen. A total of 34 shots were attempted in this game, 18 from Southampton (five on target) and 16 from West Ham (two on target).

And another of those chances for the Saints goes begging. Dibling makes a run down the right flank, cuts onto his left foot and takes a swipe at goal, but his effort is high and wide. Soon after, Onuachu meets another cross with his head, this time from Manning, but fires his header wide of the near post. It has been that kind of a day for the striker.

A long throw-in from Manning is flicked on by Harwood-Bellis. It then falls to Onuachu, who cannot steer it home from a tight angle. That was a half chance for the Saints.

Sulemana runs down the left and then looks to play a through ball for Todibo, who was making an enterprising run into the box. However, Sulemana's pass is too heavy and Areola comes off his line to collect the ball with ease before Todibo could get to it. Areola then takes his time to get it going again.
