Elanga whipped in a lovely ball, yet Milenkovic just couldn't get over it. Apparently, it's another corner as the last touch didn't come of the Serbian defender. He's targeted again, yet it whizzes past him. The next phase sees Gibbs-White fluff one over the bar from a tricky bounce inside the box.

Sangare lets fly from deep! McCarthy just tips it over for another corner, this time on the right.

Well, so much for composure. Harwood-Bellis gives away a cheap corner as he passes it back to McCarthy. It skids off the surface and past the keeper, just going out for a corner. Again though, the Forest delivery isn't all there and Southampton survive.

The hosts are confident in possession once more. Brereton-Diaz gets it on the left and switches it to Armstrong. His effort is blocked by Aina. Such was the Saints' love for the ball against Newcastle, they actually had 77.8% possession in their opening day defeat.

Gibbs-White looks to break for Forest. However, his ball across to Elanga is poor. The Swede picks it up and drives, before Brereton-Diaz tracks back with a lazy, cynical foul. He's lucky that's not a yellow card.
Southampton vs Nottingham Forest
Forest have had a good opening spell here today. In fact, it loosely continues their opening day exploits. They had more shots on target than any other Premier League side on MD1 (eight). Only once since their return to the division in 2022 have they had more in a single match (nine vs Wolves in April).

Forest haven't made the most of that! Aina was free as a bird, in behind on the left. Wood joins the attack at the back post, and the Kiwi attacks a nicely floated ball, yet can only head straight at McCarthy. What a waste.
