From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

England play a World XI at Soccer Aid 2024 with professional players and celebrities in action at Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino is back, too, just weeks after being dismissed by the Blues following a season in charge and will coach up the World XI.

Joining the Argentine in the dugout will be his trusted long-time assistant Jesus Perez and Robbie Keane, fresh from guiding Maccabi Tel Aviv to a league title. England’s coaching set-up includes: Frank Lampard, Harry Redknapp, Vicky McClure, Robbie Williams, David Seaman.

England are desperately searching for victory to snap a run of five successive wins for the World XI, including last year’s 4-2 win at Old Trafford, where Kem Cetinay became Soccer Aid’s all-time leading scorer.

13 mins: Chance! Oh that was a moment. Joe Cole releases the ball to Sam Thompson who carries it forward before squaring the ball across to Jill Scott.

She leaves it alone and it comes out to Tom Grennan. He darts through the middle of the centre-backs for a one-on-one with Petr Cech.

Cech holds his ground but Grennan shoots and curls his effort wide!

10 mins: Eden Hazard is too good for this game. He scuttles past Jack Wilshere, leaves Danny Dyer panting for breath and decides not to take on Gary Cahill as he gets to the box.

Instead he sends the ball over to Usain Bolt who misses his attempted volley. Lee Mack brings the ball under control but he’s tackled beautifully by Sam Quek who turns the ball out for a corner.

6 mins: Ouch! Tom Grennan is crunched by Emmett J Scanlan who admitted ahead of this match that he has ‘no footballing ability’ at all.

Patrice Evra, who certainly does possess footballing ability, follows Scanlan’s lead and clatters Grennan to the deck again. Free kick England.

Mauricio Pochettino believes he has left Chelsea in a stronger position

Former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino believes he left the club in a stronger position than he found it following his Stamford Bridge exit.

Addressing the Blues’ ownership and supporters via social media, the 52-year-old used his first public comments since his departure two weeks ago to highlight improvements made during his single season in the job, after signing off his tenure with five consecutive Premier League wins to qualify for Europe.

It was decided in the days immediately following the campaign that the Argentinian would not continue in the role, after failing to reach agreement with the owners and sporting directors over the limit of his responsibility for football matters.

The pitch at Stamford Bridge looks shocking. The groundstaff will all be on their holidays right now following the conclusion to the Premier League season.

Kick off is quickly approaching, can England earn their first win in five years?
