Scotland fans pack Munich bar ahead of Euros opener against hosts Germany

Slovenia fought back to earn a battling point against Denmark as Christian Eriksen was denied an emotional winner on his return to European Championship football.

Danish talisman Eriksen suffered a heart attack in their Euro 2020 opener against Finland, but looked to have set his side on course for victory three years on after finishing off a clever move from a throw-in on the right. Eriksen, who had to be brought back to life when he last featured in the Euros, was mobbed by his team mates after giving his side a 17th-minute lead.

But despite dominating possession, Denmark struggled to create clear openings, with Jan Oblak forced into only one save from a sliding Rasmus Hojlund. It left them vulnerable to a late Slovenia leveller, which arrived mere moments after striker Benjamin Sesko had struck the woodwork from distance: a bouncing ball was lashed into Morten Hjulmand by left-back Erik Janza, deflecting past a helpless Kasper Schmeichel in goal to earn Slovenia a 1-1 draw and a potentially valuable point.

Denmark, though, will have disappointed to have ceded a position of strength with tough fixtures against England and Serbia to come in Group C at Euro 2024.

Re-live all of the action from Denmark v Slovenia:

26’ - Poland 1-0 Netherlands

Gakpo scythes through two tackles and frees Reijnders, who bursts into the box and tries to square to give Depay a tap-in - Syzmanski it is who makes a huge recovery slide to intercept that ball and ensure Poland survive again.

The Oranje keep pushing but haven’t found a way through yet, or at least haven’t found the right final pass or shot. They’ve certainly been in good positions enough times.

Dumfries now nods just wide after another Gakpo run down the left.

22’ - Poland 1-0 Netherlands

Should be level. Netherlands have had at least two really good chances today already, but this time it’s Depay who spurns a big one.

A header is won in midfield, it’s knocked forward for Simons who flicks the ball infield to Depay...and he smashes it miles off target.

Van Dijk is then pulled up for a foul, before Depay whips a cross along the six-yard box but there’s nobody on hand to poke it in.

20’ - Poland 1-0 Netherlands

Almost a big response of the Dutch’s own corner - Van Dijk reaches the ball in on the volley, sends it into the ground and towards goal, but Szczesny reacts to make the save and it fortunately falls to a white shirt to clear.

It has been almost all Netherlands in this game; let’s see what they can do now after that setback.

GOAL! 16’ - Poland 1-0 Netherlands

Out of nothing, Poland ahead!

They win their first corner and from the inswinger on the left, Buksa rises highest after running in front of two defenders, flicks it past Verbruggen and into the net!

Poor from Netherlands on that set piece - Poland ahead.

16’ - Poland 0-0 Netherlands

Couple of sneaky bits of skill from Depay down the left, getting away from two challenges and then switching play; it eventually finds Simons from the right wing and he shoots low from range, but it’s always fading wide.

Yellow card for Veerman for a foul on Szymanski - bit of a delayed decision from the ref and it didn’t even look as though he was going to give the foul at first.

Not much in it and a bit harsh - Reijnders is seemingly also booked afterwards for his views on the matter.

12’ - Poland 0-0 Netherlands

Netherlands should be ahead. Gakpo has been the danger man early on but this chance comes from the right, a low cross into the middle of the box finding the onrushing Reijnders - and he steers his shot wide.

Should at least have hit the target.

Poland just unable to get numbers forward centrally at the moment; they’ve had a couple of wide counters but with not too much following in through the middle.

8’ - Poland 0-0 Netherlands

Poland yet to really get going - Salamon makes an interception in the centre circle and tries to shoot from well inside his own half. It just about has the power to reach Verbruggen’s penalty box.

Not the best start from them yet and they could do with a few minutes in possession.

4’ - Poland 0-0 Netherlands

Early chance for the Dutch - Gakpo cutting in from the left and getting a low shot away towards the near post, tipped around by Szczesny.

Already looks like Poland plan to sit off and try to win second balls and block off the avenue into the box - but they’re not doing so successfully early on, as Gakpo and Depay almost link up again.

We are underway in Hamburg! Big game - how will Probierz’s side deal with Lewandowski’s absence?
