Real Madrid vs Liverpool LIVE: Result and reaction as Reds crash out of Champions League

90 mins: Two minutes of added time left of Liverpool’s 2023 Champions League campaign.

The damage was done in the first leg when Real Madrid pumped five poast them but Karim Benzema ensured that Madrid keep their strong home record in check against the Reds.

87 mins: Lucas Vazquez is on for Dani Carvajal.

84 mins: Marco Asensio and Aurelien Tchouameni come on for Real Madrid now. Vinicius Junior and Toni Kroos are replaced. Carlo Ancelotti will be saving his best players for El Clasico is weekend.

81 mins: That’s that then. If Real Madrid scored at any stage Liverpool were virtually out of the tie. With 10 minutes to go and needing four goals the Reds have no chance of a comeback.

Karim Benzema is taken off now after pulling up gingerly. Rodrygo comes on to replace him.

72 mins: Into the final 20 minutes and Liverpool need a couple of miracles. I don’t think one would be enough for them at this stage.

Real Madrid have been too savvy and too good.

69 mins: Close! Vinicius is sent the ball as he runs down the left wing. He darts inside and rolls a pass over to Benzema just inside the box.

Benzema let the ball go across his body before drilling his shot over the top of the crossbar!

66 mins: Real Madrid have done their job expertly. They’re so confident in possession that Liverpool have found themselves chasing the ball around for much of the game.

When the Reds go get control misplaced passes drain all the momentum out of their attacks.

63 mins: Antonio Rudiger comes on a rare foray into the Liverpool half and slips the ball to Nacho who makes an overlapping run in behind Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Nacho’s cutback is aimed towards Karim Benzema but he can’t quite pick him out and Ibrahima Konate is on hand to boot it away.
