Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Marko Arnautovic marked his return to West Ham's team by getting injured and leaving Molineux on crutches after a 3-0 loss at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Tuesday.

Arnautovic missed West Ham's last two games after he was tempted to accept a lucrative offer from a Chinese club. On Friday, he said he was staying at the London club and signed a new contract.

He was recalled by West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini but didn't finish the match after hobbling off in the 77th minute with a leg injury following a tackle from Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves. He was wearing a protective boot as he left the stadium.

Raul Jimenez's late double inspired Wolves to an ultimately comfortable victory after West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski threatened to frustrate the hosts.

Romain Saiss opened the scoring with a header from a corner in the 66th, before Jimenez took his tally to 12 goals for the season with strikes in the 80th and 86th minutes.

Wolves climbed to seventh place in the Premier League. West Ham lost three days after exiting the FA Cup at the hands of third-tier struggler AFC Wimbledon.

Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City, 49 minutes

Nearly for Manchester City!

An intricate move results in Leroy Sane finding enough space to get to the byline down the left.

The German powerfully whips low across the six-yard box and Raheem Sterling looks to have a run on his marker, but can't connect with the ball as it flies past his extended leg and out of play for a Newcastle throw.

GOAL! Manchester United 0-1 Burnley (Ashley Barnes, 50 minutes)

Barnes for Burnley!

It is poor from Andreas Pereira, leaving an opening for Jack Cork to nip in and dispossess him.

Cork feeds Ashley Barnes, who finishes with aplomb.

Burnley aren't bad value for their lead, either.

PENALTY FOR ARSENAL! Sead Kolasinac is felled by Bruno Ecuele Manga!

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Cardiff (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, 66 minutes)

And PIerre-Emerick Aubameyang converts from the spot!

Arsenal finally lead at the Emirates.

Harry Latham-Coyle29 January 2019 21:10

GOAL! Wolves 1-0 West Ham (Romain Saiss, 66 minutes)

Goals everywhere!

Joao Moutinho curls in a lovely corner and Romain Saiss rises powerfully to head past Lukasz Fabianski.

RED CARD! Lucas Digne is sent off for Everton! Huddersfield 0-1 Everton, 67 minutes

Adama Diakhaby breaches the offside trap and is away, and Lucas Digne clips his heels as he begins to move into the Everton box.

It is just outside, and the referee goes to his pocket, pulling out the red card and dismissing the Frenchman.

Two left-backs lost for Everton now, with Leighton Baines limping off earlier. Cenk Tosun is sacrificed as Jonjoe Kenny is introduced to shore up the defence.

Wolves 1-0 West Ham, 70 minutes

Manuel Pellegrini has been forced into action. Andy Carroll and Pedro Obiang replace Mark Noble and Robert Snodgrass.

Harry Latham-Coyle29 January 2019 21:16

Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City, 58 minutes

David Silva is found brilliantly by Kevin De Bruyne, taking a lovely touch to move the ball out of his feet and firing powerfully towards goal.

Martin Dubravka is firmly behind it, however.

Harry Latham-Coyle29 January 2019 21:18

GOAL! Fulham 3-2 Brighton, (Aleksandar Mitrovic, 74 minutes)

Turnaround!

Aleksandar Mitrovic has two, Fulham have three and lead!

The credit for this one should go to Joe Bryan, though, who crosses deliciously for the Serbian to head home.

Dunk isn't happy - he thinks there may have been a foul, and he might have a case...

Harry Latham-Coyle29 January 2019 21:18

Newcastle 0-1 Manchester City, 62 minutes

Kevin De Bruyne was booked controversially after taking a free kick too quickly in the first half, and the Newcastle players are baying for blood as he clumsily brings down Matt Ritchie with the home side looking to counter.

Paul Tierney gives the Belgian a talking to, but you suspect he would have been cautioned were he not already in the book. He'll soon be replaced, too, with Bernardo Silva ready.
