West Ham United's run-in to their maiden season at the London Stadium is in danger of becoming an anti-climax, but if anything can stir some passion it is a visit from Chelsea.

Team news

West Ham are confident that Andy Carroll can pass a late fitness test to feature against Chelsea. Michail Antonio is meanwhile suspended after being sent off in the 1-1 draw with Watford last weekend while Angelo Ogbonna, Diafra Sakho and Gokhan Tore all remain sidelined.

Chelsea — somewhat intimidatingly for their opponents — boast a completely clean bill of health.

Expected line-ups

West Ham (4-2-3-1): Randolph; Kouyate, Fonte, Reid, Cresswell; Noble, Obiang; Feghouli, Snodgrass, Lanzini; Carroll.

Chelsea (3-4-2-1): Courtois; Azpilicueta, Luiz, Cahill; Moses, Kante, Matic, Alonso; Pedro, Hazard; Costa.

It's a big game for...

Andy Carroll: Who else? Carroll has scored five goals in his last three home London derbies in the Premier League and is one goal away from his 50th strike in the top flight. He has also scored in two of his last three games against Chelsea.

"We have done well without him in the last few games but I'm sure we would have done better with him because he is one of our key players," Bilic said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Monday evening.

"It will be great to have him on the pitch on Monday and a big blow if he doesn't make it."

Player to watch...

Eden Hazard: The Belgian is expected to be fit for Chelsea's Premier League clash at West Ham on Monday despite picking up a worrying knock in training.

Hazard was on the receiving end of a kick in training, but head coach Antonio Conte expects the Belgium playmaker to be available at the London Stadium.

Hazard has been in superb form in recent weeks and was particularly influential in the club's recent 3-1 home win against Swansea, completing more dribbles (8) than any other player on the pitch.

Best stat

Antonio Conte has lost two of his three away London derbies in the Premier League, losing out to Arsenal in September and Tottenham in January, while beating Crystal Palace in the other game.

West Ham: 5/1

Chelsea: 5/9

Draw: 3/1

35 mins: Chelsea are really starting to look the better team. And Jose Fonte almost gifts them the chance to score a second. He attempts to dribble his way out of his own half and is lucky not to concede possession, eventually jumping into a rash tackle with Fabregas which Andre Marriner decides is fair - but surely only just.

38 mins: The league leaders might be a goal to the good but they're certainly not having a particularly good game. Victor Moses has been particularly sub-par and has just poked a through-ball into the West Ham half, aimed at precisely nobody.

Moments later Kante seeks to get thing moving and breaks into space before laying off Pedro, but the midfielder is stopped in his tracks by a powerful tackle from Obiang.

40 mins: Huge chance from West Ham. Lanzini picks the ball up, drifts into Chelsea's half and spots Noble in some space. He lays the ball off and continues his run, getting the ball back on the edge of the box. He has Feghouli running into space down his right but instead decides to shoot ... and blazes his shot straight over the bar.

42 mins: Chelsea then go down the other end and miss a hatful of chances! Hazard breaks down the left and could shoot but instead rolls the ball across the face of goal for Diego Costa to run onto. Costa throws himself at it and misses, handing an opportunity to Victor Moses, but the full-back's low shot is deflected away by Cresswell.

The ball then falls to Pedro who shifts the ball onto his right; his shot is confidently pushed clear by Randolph and West Ham live to fight another day.

45 mins: There's going to be four minutes of first-half extra time. Mostly because of Carroll's nosebleed.

West Ham will be happy to get in at 1-0 at this rate. The ball is moved wide to Pedro out on the left wing and Jose Fonte looks as though he's got himself ahead of the winger, only to take an almighty swing and a miss at it, allowing his opponent to run clear. Fortunately for West Ham his cross into the box is poor and easily cleared.

HALF-TIME: West Ham 0 Chelsea 1

West Ham weather some late pressure from Chelsea to go in just the one goal down. They started the game very positively and enjoyed some success attacking down the wings, but Chelsea have grown in confidence since opening the scoring and will count themselves unlucky they couldn't make it two before the break.

So, the battle of the strikers hasn't particularly delivered. Carroll has looked dangerous in the air but has thus far been effectively marshalled by Cahill and Luiz and is yet to have a real shot on target. Meanwhile Diego Costa has been largely anonymous, touching the ball just 24 times and missing a superb opportunity to double his club's advantage when Hazard had rolled the ball into his path.

46 mins: West Ham get us underway for the second-half. No substitutions for either side.

Vithushan Ehantharajah6 March 2017 21:05

48 mins: Pedro is penalised for catching Lanzini but the referee keeps his cards in his pocket. Obiang looks to chip Feghouli into some space down the right but overhits it.
