After losing 1-0 to Manchester City earlier in the week, the hosts responded in fashion with a comfortable and largely controlled display in front of their fans.
It took just seven minutes for Manuel Pellegrini’s side to take the lead, with Declan Rice finding the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Mark Noble doubled the lead from the penalty spot three minutes before the break.
After the restart West Ham continued to dominate proceedings as the visitors struggled to make their presence felt, aside from a late free-kick which struck the woodwork. The result sees the Londoners move up to ninth in the table on 39 points.

Newcastle overload Aaron Cresswell down the right and the ball is fed into the box towards Salomon Rondon, the Venezuelan ready to sweep him from eight yards out before a sizeable French leg slides across to steal the ball away.
Good defending.

Blood pours from the bridge of Aaron Cresswell's nose, and indeed Javier Manquillo's eyebrow.
A nasty clash of heads, both players completely blameless.
Cresswell is back on his feet to be mopped up, but Manquillo bore the brunt of the bang, and remains down. Concussion ever a concern in such incidents, and the Spaniard will be treated by two Newcastle medics.

Manquillo remains stricken, and may be in more serious bother than Newcastle would have hoped.

Some much needed strapping is applied to Javier Manquillo's head, the Spaniard looking to be in the early stages of the mummification process, though his brain does not appear to have been removed via the nose.
He'll be alright to continue, and touches hands with Aaron Cresswell to signify no harm, no foul.

Ayoze Perez's quick feet move him beyond Manuel Lanzini all-to-easily, and his floated cross is just about flicked away by Issa Diop with Salomon Rondon lurking.
Matt Ritchie is scythed down by Robert Snodgrass, but the Scot rather wastes the resulting free kick.

Miguel Almirón has scarcely touched the ball through the first 20 minutes, Newcastle's record signing thus far forced to do far more chasing than he would have liked.
The Paraguayan has largely confined himself to the left wing, and the visitors will be looking to get him into the game more as they grow into the contest.

Again Issa Diop is well-placed as Newcastle's Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon look to combine on the edge of the West Ham box.
