From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Manager Manuel Pellegrini put out five new faces in the side that was thrashed 4-0 by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, including Jack Wilshere, Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko.
The Chilean will not panic just yet but will nonetheless hope for a much-improved performance from his side as his new starts begin to gel after a summer of change at the London Stadium.
Bournemouth’s start to the season greatly contrasted that of their opponents on Saturday, after they secured a 2-0 victory over Cardiff thanks to goals from Ryan Fraser and Calum Wilson.
Eddie Howe will believe he still has a major card up his sleeve, with record signing Jefferson Lerma yet to enter the fold for his new side after joining from Levante.

It’s a big game for…
Jack Wilshere: The former Arsenal midfielder was starved of the ball in attacking areas due to the efficiency of Liverpool’s game, and the 26-year-old is still to put in the level of performance that saw him return to the Arsenal first team last season. Pellegrini stated that he sees the England man as a holding midfielder and therefore the initiator of their attacks, which places a huge amount of pressure on a man who has yet to hit the ground running at the London Stadium.
Stat…
Five: Of the six Premier League matches between these two sides, five have ended with each side scoring at least once. The only league fixture when this did not occur was back in August 2016, the first league match at the London Stadium, when West Ham ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a late goal from Michail Antonio.
Remember when…
There have been no shortage of high-scoring encounters between these two sides, and their meeting on Boxing Day last season was a fixture which also consisted of last-minute controversy and a goalkeeping mistake. Marko Arnautovic’s two goals, the first a simple finish after Asmir Begovic’s slip, seemed to have given the Hammers a 3-2 victory. However, in the last minute of additional time Wilson diverted a header from Nathan Aké into the net, which, after being initially disallowed for offside, was given as a goal by Bobby Madley, leaving West Ham incensed.
Player to watch…
David Brooks: The 21-year-old was Bournemouth’s go-to man on Saturday, presenting himself as the vital cog that linked Bournemouth’s midfield and attack together. Adept movement and commensurate precision with his passing left Cardiff bereft of ideas, and West Ham will need to keep an eye on the Welshman, who created Bournemouth’s opener on Saturday.
Past three-meetings…
West Ham 1 (Hernández) Bournemouth 1 (Fraser), Premier League, January 2018
Bournemouth 3 (Gosling, Aké, Wilson) West Ham 3 (Collins, Arnautović x2), Premier League, December 2017
Bournemouth 3 (King x3) West Ham 2 (Antonio, Ayew), Premier League, March 2017

Odds…
West Ham to win: 11/10
Bournemouth to win: 5/2
Draw: 5/2
Leicester 2-0 Wolves
50:Â Wolves introduce Traore and he is already looking threatening. He produces a handful of crosses and Jimenez has a shot blocked.
Tottenham 1-1 Fulham
MITROOOO
52: Aleksandar Mitrovic opens his Premier League for Fulham with a bizarre goal at Wembley.Â
Joe Bryan's cross to the back post is played across goal by Sessegnon, who finds Mirtovic who is on the floor for some reason and nods in.Â
Everton 2-1 Southampton
54: Danny Ings is unmarked in the middle and he taps in his first goal for Southampton and he may not get many easier chances. Lemina headed on from a corner and Ings reacted quickest to score.
West Ham 1-0 Bournemouth
56:Â There should have been a second penalty at the London Stadium. Noble clatters into Fraser inside the penalty area and brings him down. The Cherries are adamant they should have a penalty but the referee ignores their protests. The West Ham captain is very fortunate there.Â
West Ham 1-1 Bournemouth
59: Callum Wilson equalises against West Ham, and it's a great goal. He collects the ball inside just past the halfway line then starts his run towards goal. He works his way through the defence and tucks a neat finish under Fabianski.
West Ham 1-2 Bournemouth
65: Oh no, West Ham have fallen apart. From a set piece, Steve Cook rises above Ogbonna, who is not overly interested in defending, and heads in to net to complete a quick turn around. Who didn't see this coming.
Leicester 2-0 Wolves
65: Jamie Vardy is given his marching orders and is sent off for a high tackle on Doherty. He wins a couple of 50-50 challenges, then follows through on a tackle and is dismissed. Leicetser have 25 minutes to hold onto their two goal lead.Â
Everton 2-1 Southampton
66:Â Everton have the ball in the back of the net but it will not count. Walcott puts the ball past past McCarthy but the flag is up as Tosun is offside in the build up.
Tottenham 1-1Â Fulham
71:Â Harry Kane goes close to breaking that August curse! Trippier whips a ball from deep and Kane hits the post from only a couple of yards out, he has to score that!
Tottenham 2-1 Fulham
74: Kieran Trippier takes some of that fine England form into the Premier League. From a similar area to his goal against Croatia, the full back lines up a free kick and curls the effort over the wall and into the left corner. Fabri has no chance.Â
