Tottenham vs West Brom: Harry Kane hat-trick sends Spurs second in the table

KICK-OFF: A new record for West Brom as they punt the ball high into the Tottenham half after just six seconds and show their opponents that they are going to be in for a physical battle. Albion are unbeaten in their last four visits to White Hart Lane in the Premier League. 

3 mins: Maybe that battle is a little too physical after Nacer Chadli twice flattens Danny Rose in the opening moments of this contest. Perhaps more than that though, their individual battle shows that the former Spurs player is going to find himself pinned back the surging runs of the wing-back this afternoon.

5 mins: Rose is in the thick of it again, and it's run and cross from the left that brings the first chance of the game. Harry Kane was on the end of the defender's delivery, but his poked first time shot dropped wide of Ben Foster's far post.

8 mins: The pattern has very much been set with Tottenham zipping the ball about with pace in the West Bromwich Albion half. The latest spell of possession ends with Kane again going for goal, this time from outside the box. Once more the striker is off target.

10 mins: A contrasting 60 seconds for Christian Eriksen. The Dane begins the tenth minute of the match with some wonderful fancy footwork on the left wing that fools two West Brom players, and ends it by overhitting a pass 20 yards from its intended target.

12 mins: GOAL! TOTTENHAM 1 WEST BROM 0:

Tottenham have a deserved early lead! Harry Kane had fired two early warnings at West Brom, and now the England striker has his goal. Dominating possession, the home side had been allowed to pick their passes in the Albion half, and when Christian Eriksen took control five yards outside the penalty area, the visitors were in trouble. The Dane slipped a short through ball beyond Jonas Olsson, Kane kept himself onside before controlling and side-footing into the roof of Ben Foster's net.

16 mins: Tottenham and Kane are on the hunt for more. This time it's through Kyle Walker on the right, but the Spurs goalscorer is snuffed out at the near post by Gareth McAuley.

18 mins: The Tottenham pressure continues to pile on. A quick flurry of corners has Albion holding firm in numbers inside their own box, and that allows Danny Rose the space to move on to the loose ball as it's cleared. The defender takes aim with a volley from 25 yards out, but he's never going to repeat the goal he scored against Arsenal on his Premier League debut all those years ago. This one ends up somewhere high in the stand.

21 mins: West Brom venture into the Tottenham defensive third for the first time only for Hugo Lloris to make a marvellous save. The French stopper got down low at his far post to block Salomon Rondon's shot although the offside flag had already gone after Olsson had headed the ball down to the striker.
