Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Tottenham Hotspur can ill-afford a slip at White Hart Lane with Chelsea 11 points clear at the top, while breathing down their necks are Arsenal, Liverpool and in-form Manchester United.
Stoke have taken only two points from a possible 14 against the top six sides this season but it remains to be seen how Spurs will be affected by playing for 51 minutes with 10 men against Gent on Thursday.
At this stage last year, Tottenham were chasing Leicester for the title but now they are involved in a fierce battle to finish in the top four in order to qualify for the Champions League.

13 mins: A first foray forward from the visitors pressurises Mousa Dembele to lazily give possession away from his side's defensive corner flag. His clearance falls to Joe Allen, who moves inside before shooting into the side netting from 20 yards.
14 mins: GOAL! TOTTENHAM 1 STOKE 0:
A 100th club career goal for Harry Kane! Stoke's defence failed to deal with Dele Alli as he weaved into the penalty area, and although Ryan Shawcross managed to work the ball away from the youngster and then Christian Eriksen, his half-hearted prod ended up at the feet of Tottenham's main man. Needing just one touch to steady himself, Kane's second sent a low, crisp shot beyond Lee Grant, and nestled in the bottom right corner of the goal. It's an impressive century for the striker whose first effort came for Leyton Orient against Sheffield Wednesday six years ago.

He's one of Tottenham's own.
And Millwall's.
And Leyton Orient's.
And Leicester's.
19 mins: Jan Vertonghen is not long back fro injury, and he's fortunate not to be back on the treatment table following an awful lunge from Glenn Whelan. The Irishman slid in and caught the Belgian defender on the calf with his studs, earning an arguably lenient yellow card from Jonathan Moss.
22 mins: Tottenham aren't settling for one goal, and sense another is around the corner. A fizzed pass from Davies to Alli in area is miscontrolled by the English international yet the ball falls nicely for Walker on the edge of the penalty area. The full-back lets fly with an acrobatic half-volley, but it soars into the crowd.
23 mins: A brilliant save from Hugo Lloris! Stoke have barely threatened but should be on level terms after Peter Crouch met Erik Pieters brilliant cross from close range. The former Tottenham striker seemingly only had to make contact to equalise, but somehow Lloris got down to flick the ball to safety. Sensational stuff.
25 mins: White Hart Lane favourite Charlie Adam goes into the book for a late challenge on Alli. He's not happy about the decision, but the home fans are as they get to remind the Stoke man exactly what they think of him following past indiscretions.

27 mins: Vertonghen cracks a shot against the crossbar! The Belgian controlled and shot in one movement from 12 yards after Toby Alderweireld had flicked on a right-wing corner, the effort being measured enough to clear the jump of Pieters on the line but not measured enough to find the net via the crossbar.
28 mins: Kane nearly doubles his tally and Tottenham's lead with a sensational curler from outside the box. The striker's shot has swerve and dip, and deserves to find the back of the net. Instead, it drops agonisingly wide of the far post. Stoke are living dangerously now.
32 mins: GOAL! TOTTENHAM 2 STOKE 0:
Brilliant from Harry Kane! After Kyle Walker had forced Lee Grant into tipping over his fizzing long-range drive, Tottenham went to work from the corner. Christian Eriksen's outswinger from the right was perfectly played into the path of Kane positioned in the D outside the area, and the striker met it perfectly. Head down over the ball, an exquisite left-footed volley flew into the bottom left corner giving the Stoke goalkeeper no chance.
