Manolo Gabbiadini gave the Saints the lead with a smart turn and finish in the 20th minute, profiting from good work by Danny Ings, who picked Roberto Pereyra's pocket inside the penalty area and played in his fellow striker following a corner.
The goal was the Italian's first of the season but Holebas equalised in the 82nd to deny the Saints a much-needed victory and leave them one place above the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference ahead of the international break.
The ball broke to Watford's Greek defender just outside the Southampton area after bouncing off Gerard Deulofeu and he advanced into the box before unleashing a left-foot strike that flew past keeper Alex McCarthy after taking a deflection.
Half Time: Newcastle 2-1 Bournemouth
What a half at St James' Park, well for everyone apart from Adam Smith, who seems to have suffered a serious injury, which led to eight minutes being added on at the end of the half.
The hosts however have done well and a double from Salomon Rondon gave them a two-goal advantage before Jefferson Lerma reduced the deficit in the sixth minute of added time.

We're back underway in three of the four 3pm games, with Newcastle and Bournemouth going into eight minutes of added time at the end of the first half following Adam Smith's horror injury.

The Mexican nearly makes an instant impact, but after being denied by Lossl, he heads the rebound over.

Joe Hart has had to be on his toes today, and his services are required again after a deflected effort from Marc Albrighton looks to be creeping in.
46 min: Newcastle 2-1 Bournemouth
A second change for Bournemouth, with Dan Gosling replacing goalscorer Jefferson Lerma. Curious, but we're back underway in the north east.
55 min: Leicester 0-0 Burnley
A substitution for the visitors, with Steven Defour, who seems to have picked ujp a knock following a challenge with Ben Chilwell, being replaced by Jeff Hendricks.
57 min: Southampton 1-0 Watford
Very little to shout about at St Mary's in the second half, with Watford still struggling to get that final ball right despite their excellent build up to the penalty area.
