Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Liverpool arrive at St Mary's resembling something akin to Southampton's parent club. So many of the graduates at Saints have ended up at Anfield in recent years and today Virgil van Dijk plays in the centre of Jurgen Klopp's defence, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane also starting and Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana on the bench.
Mauricio Pellegrino – a former Liverpool player himself – will be desperate to build on last week's 3-2 win over West Brom and ride their momentum away from the drop, especially given Saints' run of five away games in their next six Premier League encounters.
However they face a Liverpool side determined to keep up their top-four push and a forward in Mohamed Salah who cannot stop scoring, with plenty of foils around him that will keep Southampton's defence occupied.

83' - Southampton have been going for this a bit more over the last 10 minutes or so but Liverpool have defended really well so far. You'd also expect the visitors to get even more chances on the counter with Saints committing more men forward for attacks of their own.
86' - Adam Lallana plays a one-two with Mo Salah on the edge of the box before putting his shot just wide of the far post from just 12 yards out.
He's got to be hitting the target there!
90' - We'll have a minimum of four additional minutes at the end of the match.
Full-time - Southampton 0-2 Liverpool
The referee blows the final whistle and Liverpool are up to third in the table courtesy of a comfortable 2-0 victory here.
Thanks for tuning in!
Goals from Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah sealed all three points for Liverpool on the South Coast
